so i know the stats on tigers final round playing partners and needless to say if hes leading/tied for the lead after 54 they tend to struggle.

I believe Luke Donald shot +2 today? choke much?

Not sure he choked, I didn't see it personally but it sounded like no putts dropped for him and he missed a couple of fairways.

I don't think anyone would have lived with that start by Tiger.

Definitely not a choke. He played well. Putts just wouldn't fall.

Completely agree. A few lip outs go in and he shoots 69-70 with a final score of -16 to Tiger's -18. Still loses but it makes it a bit more interesting down the stretch.

I'm not so sure Luke Donald didn't choke a little. He did have several lip-outs, but that is also a sign of nerves. He sure wasn't the same golfer he has Friday and Saturday, coincedence or not. I'd definitely call it a mini-choke for Luke Donald. He did shoot a 74 which was even higher than the average score for Tiger's final-round playing partners in the past.

All in all, it was great experience for Luke Donald. Hopefully it will serve him better the next time around.

I think Donald has the skill and imagination to win several times in his career. However, I have been thinking lately that Sergio is poised to become the greatest "should have been but never was" on the tour. He obviously has some physical skills, but he does not seem to have the imagination and "closing" ability to win many times or win majors on tour.

Unless Sergio starts playing every oddball tournament that all the top 20 players skip, he may not break 10 wins and I hardly see a major in his future. His stats are amazingly poor for someone who burst on the scene with such flare and fanfare.

Luke Donald is ranked 10th in the all around stats and Garcia is 55th. Last week Donald was 12th and Garcia 73rd. I think that sets the expectations about right.

Just for the record, I would take a T5 and T3 in the British Open and PGA Championship, respectively.

Say what you want about Sergio, but he is still a hell of a golfer. He just can't find his name next to first place quite yet. I'd still take his number of top-10s in majors though.

Ditto. And it's not Sergio's putting per se, either. Though the slow greens and easy reads at Medinah helped him. I still think it's a mental thing. I think he's a soccer fan - he plays great at Ryder Cups, including putting - a team event. Putting alone in majors, though, is where the mental issues show up. On the greens.

I don't see how you can start drawing comparisons - especially negative ones - based on just one or two events. Sergio had a bad round one year, Luke had a bad round a different year. Should the two do it again maybe you can start doing comparisons.

Also, golfers are really not expected to dominate in their twenties. Just because Tiger did now everyone expects all the young guns to be as good and as consistent. They ain't. However, they ARE doing well for their age. So give them a break and start comparing them to the rest of the field and their peers, not Tiger.
