So first I have to check my SkyCaddie to see how far my ball went.
check the SkyCaddie to see how far the next shot should be.
get out of cart
Walk to lie and decide what club to get
back to my cart, (slowly to admire my new bag),
Take the headcover off, iron cover to pocket, others in basket on back of cart seat
walk back to lie with a couple of glances back at my new bag and iron covers.
Adjust the lie of the ball so it sits up and is not stymied by a tree or something.
grip, waggle, grip, waggle, waggle, hit, (no practice swing to save time)
Ask other players where the ball went
take club back to cart
replace headcover
put in bag
adjust all clubs so they do not touch each other
get in cart
set Skycaddie to mark distance of shot
slam pedal to floor and we are off

I think Tour players are fast.

I think Tour players are fast.

They aren't.

Pace of play? By myself, 18 in 90 minutes riding, 150 walking.

tour players have played the course, generally speaking, at least twice before they actually compete. their caddies mark off every possible yardage they might end up in on those little notepads with diagrams of each hole, green, etc. plus, their caddies handle their clubs, etc. so, if anybody is fast and efficient out on tour, it's the caddies.

Get to ball
Take rangefinder readings
Choose club
Practice swing, setup, swing
Take note of ball path if headed off fairway
Throw everthing in cart, move ahead.
With free (waiting) time before next shot, clean and replace clubs.

I try and minimize the time I spend setting up and making the shot and then get out of there ASAP.

I am not as fast as Iacas, but I'm pretty fast.

. . . back to my cart, (slowly to admire my new bag) . . . a couple of glances back at my new bag and iron covers . . .

What bag did you get? Sounds sweet: can you post a link to pictures?

I've played rounds on an open course (solo and otherwise), but never the good fortune to play with a laser rangefinder, in a cart by myself, on a course that's either open, or moving as fast as I can go. Other than on the tee, where you're really at the mercy of other people, here's my typical routine: - walk past a yardage marker on a line that allows me to pace yardage on the way to my ball. - gauge the wind and elevation as I approach the ball - by the time I've reached the ball, the decision is made regarding the type of shot I'll try hitting - pull the appropriate iron as I'm setting the bag down - as I set up, take into account ball position relative to my feet (above or below) - make any necessary slight alignment adjustments - waggle twice, then pull the trigger - watch where it's headed as I pick up my bag - make sure I have a good idea where it is, as I walk in the general direction of my next shot - wipe off club and slide it into the bag while walking - rinse and repeat

3.5-4hr round If not waiting for groups ahead. Not slow, but not into speed golf. I'm out here for fun and to try to post a score, and I'm kind of a outdoors lover and Photographer, so I like to take in the aesthetics, smells. visuals.
I walk with a pushcart, use a laser range finder which is in my hand as I approach my ball. Replace my divots or sand them, wipe my clubs as I walk to the next shot.
I'm pretty quick tee to green, I like to take my time reading greens and putting.

I've walked 9 in 45 minutes by myself....on a short par 36/36.
- get to ball
- grab club
- determine line
- hit ball....somewhere
- club in bag
- swear as I'm walking to my next shot

I guess that I'm about average. I'm not slow and I'm not fast. However, if I have to place myself on side of the fulcrum or the other, I would say I am faster. I know what I want to do by the time I get up to a shot. In fact, I take the time riding/walking up to the ball to analyze all the factors affecting a shot (lie, wind, obstacles, etc) and have a plan of attack in place by the time it's my shot.

My routine:
-Decide what kind of shot to hit if no clear path to green
-Ballpark distance to target within about 5 yards based on markers
-Grab club I need
-Take 2 practice swings
-Line up my club to target, get my feet in position and swing after a little waggle

When I play I go on instinct and intuition, so my first impression is what I go with, whether it's judging distance or reading greens. Because of this I get around quickly, but I can't remember the last time I played where I wasn't stuck behind people playing slower than me. Stupid muni courses.

Iron covers? Really?

Whats wrong with iron covers makes everything look nicer and keeps clubs looking newer longer. every club is covered in my bag.

Besides the fact that they look like crap? And how you have to mess w/ them every time you use an iron?

Nothing.

If I was swinging those SGI shovels, I'd use iron covers too. My blades gotta breathe!!

I'm just kidding - I used iron covers with my first set of irons. After I lost the first one, I threw the rest away. It had nothing to do with aesthetics or coolness, I just didn't feel like lugging around even one extra ounce of equipment that didn't enhance my golf experience. Maybe that's why I go gloveless and shun ball retrievers.

It's a correlation, isn't it? I think the better golfers realize and see their irons more as tools, rather than expensive clubs that need to be protected at all times.

Sure, MOST golfers take care of their equipment and want it looking nice, but the whole iron cover thing to protect those precious irons is going overboard, IMO. A couple of little dings and a few scratches aren't going to affect the play of the iron. Plus, they just look so stupid.
