Keeping my front foot from rolling over

After going to the range and hitting a few hundred balls I felt good. The next morning I woke up and right foot (I'm a lefty) was in dire pain. I ended up having to go to my podiatrist and getting a cortisone shot.

I must have rolled over my ankle so many times and pull some muscles. I guess the obvious advice is not to do that but I'm sure I'm not the only one that ever had that problem. What have you guys done to avoide that kind of injury going forward? Good shoes? Ankle supports? What's worked for you?

Flare out your front foot a quarter turn.

don't hit a few hundred golf balls then?
100 is more than enough any more than that and your swing deteriorates since your tired.

I also use the front foot flare. It works great. Also helps me to complete the swing.

And I agree, that's too many range balls. I've found a 50 bucket to be plenty enough to get through my bag. I also alternate certain clubs on certain days, usually odds and evens on irons.

Are you wearing golf shoes? ore regular sneakers? work up to a couple of hundred balls. walk after hitting so many balls, listen to your body or foot when hitting so many golf balls.

Turning out your front foot a little more is a good tip. I have a tendency to roll a little on my front foot too, and personally mine is due to a swing flaw that I'm working on. Not saying it's necessarily the same for you, but I tend to slide my hips towards the target a little too much rather than just turning my hips through the ball. When I concentrate on posting on my left leg and turning through the shot, I do not roll my front foot and the quality of my shots are better too. Again, without seeing your swing, I can't say whether that has anything at all to do with it, but just an idea.

Thanks guys for the advice! My local Hank Haney's has a $100 per month, all you can hit. I guess I got a little over zealous about it. Also I felt great the rest of the day. I was working mostly on pitch shots from 30 to 70 yards out. It wasn't until the next morning that I felt the pain.

So the overall consensus is to: Not to hit so many balls, flare the front foot a little more, and complete the hip turn without it sliding out so much. Maybe I could slow down my tempo too.
