I bought one on a whim after reading a couple reviews online, and struggling with my wedges close up around green lately. Took it out today, and this ugly little thing actually made a great improvement in my short game. I actually chipped in 2 for Birdies today during my round, and shot a 87, one of my best rounds ever.

I know, I know..... Most of you are going to say it's just a chipper, it's ugly, you wouldn't carry one, your friends would make fun of you, etc etc. I thought the same thing, but figured if it helps my game, I will put up with the smart comments. By the end of the round, after I had chipped 2 in, and put quite a few close to the pin, everyone in my group had to hit it, and 2 out of 3 said "I've got to get one of those". So make fun of it all you want, it helped my work around the green immensly.

From 110 yards and in, it's deadly. I didn't pull my pitching wedge or my 9 iron out at all today, the Niblick did it all, and did it well for me.

I have both the 42 and 56 degree Niblicks. I've had the 42 a little longer than the 56 so I have more experience with that club. I hit it with full swing 90-105 yds. I can shorten the distance just by opening my stance a little and keeping my feet close together. Both clubs are very accurate but I have not been able to master hitting the 56 out of the sand. Either club is great around the green, it just depends on what kind of shot you have to make. The sales people at Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith insist on calling these clubs "Chippers' which they are not at all. Cleveland shows them on their web site as wedges, and I believe that is how they should be portrayed. Chippers are basically one dimensional clubs, and these Niblicks can be used for a variety of shots. These clubs are easy to learn how to use, and some people have said the 56 is easy out of the sand. But I haven't found that to be the case. Bottom line, I like them, and will contine to use them.

I was told the 56 was hard to hit out of the sand, because you can't open the club up. Most guys said they still kept a sand wedge in their bags for bunker shots, but used the Niblick for anything else.

One of the old men I play golf with every week from work came in smiling and handed me a scorecard this morning. 38 out, 39 back.... His best round in 5 years since I've known him. He's typically a low to mid 80's guy. He was one of the guys that I let hit the Niblick 10 last week. I said "Bob, that's an awesome round!!!!!, you must have been on!!!" He was telling me about the round, and got to the point where he was talking about his short game, and cracked a big smile and said "My chipping and short pitches were especially good". As soon as I saw the smile, I knew what was up, he had went and bought a Niblick 10 and even though he wasn't hitting many GIRs, he had the confidence to go for the pin with the Niblick, and left most of his approaches within 4 feet.

I was happy to hear it, the guy's a blast to play a round with.

I need to add my rounds into my handicap and see how much it has come down. Went from consistant 96's to 88-92's since I swapped a few things around.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
