How many of you guys use this and keep track of your points?

I've been a member since 07' .. I usually never sign up for these programs but since I almost always support my local shop and buy there, I decided to sign up.

I've spent about $2,500 over this winter off season and today I went to sign up on the website so I can check my points and of course, no account information available. So I call the 800 number and talk to customer-noservice and am told I have no purchases on my account. Interesting since in the past 2 years I've bought two brand new sets of clubs, numerous apparel, balls, training aids, etc. Probably $5,000 worth of stuff since I've signed up.

I'm told I'll get a "call back" to let me know what's going on. Since I save all of my receipts, I decided to see if my advantage # in on those ... turns out it is on there, but it seems that 3 different numbers have been used throughout all my purchases. It looks to me like someone else has been reaping the benifits of my purchases ... since I have not once received anything in the mail relating to my advantage club(i.e. coupons, offers, etc.), I'm only assuming I'm not getting my points.

Couple of questions ...

1.) Has this happened to anyone else?
2.) For those of you that use this program, how does the point system work and what kind of benefits or coupons do you get?
3.) Why do I always get bent over when it comes to stuff like this?

I guess this is more of a rant than anything. Maybe it's time to start shopping online.

Hey Golf Galaxy, some advice ... Take Care of the customers that support your local shop and spend too much money with you.

I KNEW i was jinxed as soon as I read your post... I had my receipt laying out on my desk because I was going to see why I haven't received any certificates, like you, despite having purchased well over $1,000 in equipment. Turns out the associate entered my address as Oans Rd instead of Owens Ave.

Who knows how long certificates, etc. have been going nowhere. Now, my account shows a negative 17 points. I have stuck up for Golf Galaxy in the past. I've had some repetitive bad experiences there lately. Its difficult to recommend them anymore.

I never thought I'd say this but I might be happier with the arrogance of the associates at Golfsmith.

Ughhh. Not a good start. I was hoping not to see any posts like that. Are you going to call them and see what can be done? I'm still waiting for my "call back".

I'm disguisted with their email answer. "We show your balance at -17.25. Thank you." Then it goes on with the standard language "Earn 1 point for every $1..."

Um, apparently I earn -$.017 for every dollar, thank you.

I'm done with GG. I'll call tomorrow but I don't expect it to go anywhere either.

I hadn't checked the points. I just logged in to the website and see that I have been awarded 2 certificates, $10 each. I am yet to receive them, although it says that it may take up to 60 days for processing and delivery and in another part it says 15 days for delivery. So who knows when I might get them.

I haven't gotten any coupons or benefits from being in the program but I just signed up less than 2 months ago.

Jon K,

I see you're from Milwaukee so I assume you went to the Golf Galaxy on 76th & Layton? I purchased a set of clubs a few weeks back from there and signed up for the advantage club. Checking online it shows I earned a little over 1000 points. At 900 points they automatically cashed out and sent me a $30 gift certificate, which I received today. When I get up to 300 points I assume they will cash that out and send me a $10 certificate. It took over 2 weeks before I got the certificate.

Did someone not properly enter your info when you signed up? You should have earned over $160 worth of gift certificates!

Good luck. Let us know what happens

I go to the Brookfield store. I know I should have quite a few points and gift certificates coming ... which is why I'm pressing the issue. If it was just a $10 gift cert., I wouldn't waste my time ... this is a bit more. Business day is over and no returned call as promised. Go figure.

I can only assume that my purchases are put on different accounts since my receipts show different account #'s. What gets me is that from the looks of it, someone else is getting points and gift certificates due to my purchasing. I'm only assuming that GG will tell me since the points have been put on an account and used, there is nothing they can do.

I have been an Advantage Member for 9 months, and received a couple $10 certificates in that time. I know that I did get notice around the 1st of the year that any points accumulated before Jan. 31 and not used would be lost - I only lost a couple. I went in to buy a new driver just prior to that and explained to the salesman that it would be dumb for me to purchase the driver that day (just prior to Jan. 31) because it would still not put me over 300 points and I would lose those points in a few days ... He spoke to his manager and they gave me a $10 discount to purchase that day.
I have been a happy member - sorry there are others with less than satisfying experiences.
I'd chalk it up to individual stores more than the company in general.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm lucky I guess, they seem to have gotten my info correct. I guess it's who you talk to there. I just joined a few weeks ago, buying an Adams hybrid, so am about 40 pts short of 300. Guess I better go buy some apparel, hmm I do need some better shoes.

Golf Galaxy is a joke. If you have a Golfsmith in your area, I highly recommend it. It's mind-boggling when you're buying a $500 driver that Golf Galaxy only gives you $60 on your trade-in driver that's only a couple years old.... and when you find a better trade-in and ask for your money back, then they decide to match the competitor's offer?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Sounds like the problem with Frequent Flyer miles. Years ago, I made my first trip to Europe, and the travel agency guy botched up my application to Delta FF Club. Anyway, I got home and saw no miles registered. I called Delta, and they said, "Too bad! You have to activate your membership before you fly!" I lost out on close to 10,000 FF miles because of that.

The GGs in St. Louis area treat me a lot better than Delta did. I have been to three GGs at different times, and the first time I walk in they asked me if I wanted to join Advantage Club.

It takes a little effort to learn to maximize your Advantage Club, but it helps out. The GG mailers usually contain a coupon for 300 points on your next purchase.

Also, they e-mail you the AC gift certificates for cumulative purchases.

New to the blog. I've been an on and off shopper with Golf Galaxy for the past couple of years, but went to a member gig a couple of nights ago. Missing purchase and 300 bonus points from that night. Then, went in on Saturday and made a purchase. That's not showing up either. I emailed them, so I'll see what their answer is. If it's not to my satisfaction, I'll only shop at another golf retail store in my area.

If the cashier screws up entering your stuff or doesn't at all....you may still have all your stuff but not be receiving anything.

Key is call with your AC# and all your receipts and tell them which numbers had been adding them too. I guarantee they can find that person and if it is an employee (s)he is caught they're done.

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

Golg Galaxy now gives you a little points tag you can put on your key chain. Clerk can scan it right when you make your purchase. It's right next to my Panera Bread, and Office Depot tags.

I tried to go to a Golf Galaxy store here in NY. It was located in the basement of a mall but the gates were down and closed at noon. Very weird never tried to go back or shop with them online. I like Golfsmith.

    • I'd agree that 4w seems like the right play here. I'm not a course designer or anything but that hole looks like it could be so much more fun if everyone played from those front 2 tee boxes that are right outside your shot cone and they cut down most of the trees down that left side of the fairway. That would give risk reward to long hitters who want to try and push it up to that left fairway, allow more players to reach that second fairway, and still allowing it to be perfectly playable for someone who only hits driver like 150yds off the tee.   Yeah it looks like 4iron aimed at that inside edge of the right bunker is the play there, especially if you don't expect a 20mph tailwind again. If it is down wind again, 5iron would be just fine too, it'd still get you inside 150yds for your approach.  Keep in mind tee marker locations too, you measured that one from the back so if those tee markers are moved all the way towards the front of that box then 5 iron is probably best just to be sure that right bunker is never in play.
    • Day 1: worked on my drill for my arms.
    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
