Just made the leap...ordered 909D2 to replace my 905R.....anyone here do the same, and if so..did it work out??

Im jumped to the 909D3 from the 905R and im happy. You wont be dissapointed in the 909D2. (provided you get those crappy stock shafts switched out...)

they are good.
i have the sytock stiff shaft, partly because of the reason that i ordered from pakistan, (no custom options) and partly because i have never been fitted. =S the diamana works pretty well. only problem is that the ball doesnt go as high as i want it to go, normally 25-28 m in the air. but idstance wise it is pretty sweet when u catch it in the center, my ball flies at a low trajectory landing at the 280 mark and rolling for further 20 -30 yards. Caution: this club is not for those looking for a forgiving club and distance, thats the ping line for u.

I demoed the D2 this week along with the Nike VR str8 fit and Ping G15. I'm going to demo and get custom fit next week but I think I will go for the D2, it felt great. The Ping was ok and the VR was probably a couple of yards longer than the D2 but I can't really afford the VR with it being so new to the market. I really liked the setup and feel of the D2 and the
fact it comes at 45" as standard where as most other manufacturers are getting on for 46" shafts. I demoed the Voodoo shaft and the ball flight looked pretty good to me, I will see what the figures on the monitor say next week.

i dont have any problems getting the ball up with the stock diamana....seems to get good ball flight...i actually thought it flew a little high for me.

anyway my d2 should be in next week...debating on trading my 905r in or holding on to it just in case.

Spend the little extra (200 bucks or so) and get a real shaft, you'll never use a stock shaft again

I'm using a 909Dcomp with Aldila Voodoo svs6 shaft cut down to 44 inches, the SW is D2 (pretty light) grip Golf pride BCT lable down, I have so much more control now over that stock shaft that I can really cut loose with it and still nail the sweet spot for a few extra yards

I agree with titleist_prov1x stock shafts are really good shafts made cheaper... I would definitely suggest going with anything in the D line, Personally the D2 spins to much for me so if I were to have one I would have the Comp but look into getting one of the more exotic shafts

That's not always true. For example, the Aldila Voodoo is the same exact shaft as the one that sold for $300 when it was introduced (with the exception of having a few tenths of a degree more torque to improve feel). Aldila wouldn't put their name or "Voodoo" on a shaft that wasn't right, and the shafts that sell for $300 still often only cost $10 or $20 to make - they sell for $300 because they can.

Stock shafts are less expensive because they're bought in bulk and because the shaft company gets a bit of advertising, so even if they sell them just a tiny bit above cost to the head manufacturer (Titleist, etc.) they're still getting a good deal out of it. But they're not going to risk damaging their brand by putting a crap shaft in with their name and the shaft product name on it. They might tweak the shaft a bit - as Aldila did for the Voodoo in the Titleist drivers - to better suit the club they're going into, but those aren't quality tweaks - just performance ones.

im sticking with my diamana shaft...i love em in my 909 fairways...909d2 will be in middle of this week...will report back

also, 909dcomp is the high flight model....if you cant get the ball up in the air buy that lol..otherwise 90% of golfers will be going d2

i havent hit the D2 but i did hit the D3 w a stock voodoo
man that is a SUPER low combo
my regular launch angle is high (over 12 degrees) and with this combo i was in the 9's!!!!
was too low for me......i like to stay in the 11-13 range if at all possible

I had my driver fitting today and went with the 909 D2 10.5 stiff Diamana. It was more forgiving than I expected, certainly more than my R9. I tried the d3/voodoo combo and it gave a very low flight. The diamana gave a good launch angle and spin rate and was more consistent than the voodoo, plus it had a nicer feel. The voodoo felt ok but a little harsh on off centre hits. Looking forward to taking it out on the course.

very interesting post you left here. It seems to me that about 5 or 6 years ago a lot of drivers off the rack did not have shafts that were as good compared to an aftermarket shaft. It seems that this has changed now and companies are putting better shafts in there products - especially the TP models. I just purchased a Titliest 909 D2 driver. the shaft i was fitted best for was the Diamana Blueboard stiff. This came as on option with the Titliest driver. the driver works wonderful for me and the shaft feels great. I have no reason to believe it isn't a good product. Your post seems to confirm this - so in your opinion, is it safe to believe that the Diamana Blueboard shaft in my driver is just as good as an aftermarket Diamana Blueboard?

"Just as good"? I have two answers:

It may even be better since they're built specifically for the heads the company (Titleist, TaylorMade, etc.) are producing. Oftentimes they'll have a slightly different torque or something but those changes are made so the shaft better fits the head...
If you're not a better fit for it, then no.

But in general, quality-wise, they're awfully close. Close enough that I've never seen the need to assume that the stock shaft is garbage. Again, companies aren't going to put their names (and their product names) on crap products.

Yea, never understood the negativity towards stock shafts. I have the Diamana's in my 909H's and my 909 3 wood and the X-Con6 in my 9.5 DComp. I certianly would recommend getting fitted but I bought these when I hit them on the range. For me, it's "hit ball, see ball go" and if I like the distance and flight I consider that a matched shaft to my swing.

Never underestimate a club ho's propensity, need, or desire to rationalize the purchase of a $400 shaft...
