Tiger Falls Apart Saturday at Firestone?

Ouch! Some of the worst golf I've ever seen Tiger play. His putting stance was well open and he was blocking putts. His full swings were all over the place. He's four back after nine holes of Davis Love III after starting the day leading by one and birdieing one of the holes.

E E -1 -1 E +1 +2 +3 +3

22 of 24 when leading or tied for the lead after 36 holes is almost more impressive than 38 of 41 or whataever it is when leading after 54.

Also, 17 consecutive rounds under par is in danger. He'll have to put together a 31 on the back nine.

I'm wondering when the Love train is going to derail. Could this finally be the tournament where Davis puts 4 good rounds together?

He's hitting the ball extremely well. Off the tee and especially into the green.

Tiger needs to stay with the stinger. That's worked so far on the back 9.

Fairways and Greens.

Yeah, a front-nine 33 from Davis was good. I don't want that to get lost in all this. It's just odd... all this talk of Tiger winning four in a row and he shoots 38.

I haven't heard that yet. But I'm about 30 minutes behind in my TiVo coverage, so I'll edit this comment later if they say something.

He doesn't look injured to me. He's not grabbing anywhere, wincing (except at the bad swings), etc. He looks healthy... just playing bad golf.

Just saw the stat: the last time Tiger had 4 bogeys in a row was in 1996 at the Tour Championship. The one he qualified for by winning 2 events out of 7 to earn his PGA Tour card... So, yeah, that long ago.

Maybe he's just really sick of hearing about how he can't win from behind, so he had to put himself behind so he could make a Sunday charge.

By the way, the tee times were moved up to threesomes from 7:30 to 9:30 teeing off #1 and #10 tomorrow (Sunday), so I'm going to be leaving my house REALLY early in the morning.

He'll be fine, and wouldn't be suprised if he mounts a major league charge tomorrow for a win.

From a nasty lie on 17 he chips in to go to +1. No sub-par round today, so that streak ends at 17. But Davis fell back on the back nine with three bogeys, most of which were at least indirectly caused by poor putting.

So there you go, Dave. You didn't have to wait long for a near-derailment of the Love Train.

One back and likely playing in the final threesome... unless it's Cink/Casey/Love.

Tiger had a flat 71. Not what I'd call a collapse, really. He's still in the hunt for tomorrow and will have everyone looking over their shoulder.

What was lost amidst the clamor was Ryder Cup Captain's Pick Stewart Cink carding a 64 to climb on top. He'll be paired with American hating Paul Casey tomorrow as they watch Tiger's scores posted in front of them.

Bury me with a golf glove in my pocket - just in case!

No, they may be paired with him. Threesomes tomorrow, from 7:30 to 9:30 and off both tees. Davis Love may get in the final pairing, but currently Tiger is listed atop Davis, which implies he finished first and should be in the final threesome.

Even if Tiger had a bad middle round, he made up for it in his latter round. How many of us can admit to falling apart in the middle of our round. Then go on to shoot mid-80's or higher. He showed us his great mind and his will to keep it together. It was also 10 years to the day that he made 4 straight bogey's. And you know what, he's still in the final group on Sunday.

We'll see what happens tomorow. Love is right there...so is Tiger, but Love hasn't had many chances to win tournaments lately.

My prediciton is either a really good round or really bad round by Love. Nothing in the middle.

Him (Tiger) being in the final group is whats sad about the game today. Other than Tiger you have a bunch of twirps out there that fold when they have a chance to take a tournament. Davis Love was 11 under and had a 5 stroke lead over Tiger and just quit. He looked like he just didn't care all of a suden. He dropped to 8 in 4 holes and the truth of the matter is he couldn't stand the prosperity. Tiger is the only athlete out there, the rest are a bunch of chokers! When you get a lead like that you don't back up, you add to it. It's no wonder Tiger is winning everything, the competition is pathetic!

Golf is not a game, it's a way of life!

Did anyone catch it? When Tiger was playing his long three iron third shot to the 667 yd. 16th during regulation play Lanny Wadkins said, "THIS IS ONE BIG HAIRY HOLE."
