I'm looking for Tiger to make a huge reversal of his previous Ryder Cup performances. Maybe it is because I think the guy is in a mental state right now that he actually refuses to lose. Maybe it's because I know he won't have to be paired with Phil (obviously a bad combination) or because I think he and Furyk make such a good team.

Whatever the reason, I look forward to seeing Tiger take charge and become an emotional (and points) leader in this years Ryder Cup.

I hope you're right. I hope Tiger can take that "Major Mentality" into the Ryder Cup. So far I haven't seen the single minded focus that is Tiger Woods in the Ryder Cup. Maybe the fact that he is well on his way to that magic #18 that he can focus on match play again. Hopefully the likes of a Robert Karlsson will not dispatch of our best players with ease.

He took the rookies out to dinner the Friday of the Bridgestone. That's a nice bonding move that might help the team. Sounds like he's taking a leadership role. Of course, I think all of the "rookies" are older than he is.

Good luck with your hopes here on this one. Tiger plays for himself and does not take to the team concept. He plays poorly in these matches and will probably do so again!

What? Play for himself? If he only plays for himself he wouldn't even be in an event remotely close to the Ryder Cup.

I suppose when he took the rookies out to dinner last Friday it was just for himself...and when he was on of the first Americans to run (a bit early) onto the green after Leonard sunk his putt he was doing it for himself. Come on. Tiger might not be the most affable person out there, but he wants to win more than anyone else.

Uh, well, so do all the other American players. The 'seasoned' vets like Mickelson and Furyk all have marginal records in this event. Toms, DiMarco and Verplank are better, but that's only with one or two years under their belt.

Maybe you think he's not a team player because his "team" record is no that great in the Ryder Cup. His singles record is 3-1-1, but when he is relying on someone else, it drops off. I'm sure it's because he's not a good partner...I know I wouldn't want Tiger.

There is no validity in that comment.

I'm not sure Tiger will reverse his past fortunes in the Ryder Cup or not, but the United States won't win unless they get 3 or 4 points from the world's #1. They need every little bit they can get.

Tiger seems to be a different person than he was two years ago. I think he has taken a leadership role this time around, and that's definitely a good thing.

I just hope he keeps the driver in the bag during foursome competition.

By the way, read my Thrash Talk when it's published this morning. It actually goes along nicely with this topic.

there is NO WAY anyone wants to paired with Tiger in alternate shot formats. While Tiger can pull off the get out of jail shots on his wayward drives, I'm pretty sure few others can. Maybe the 5wood will produce a more compatable partner this time around.

Ok. You can have Brett Wetterich.

I'll take Tiger.

I reckon he will be the man who makes the big difference for the USA...being a leader and showing the others how it is done.

He just has a look about him at the moment, a look that that says " no one is better at this game than me, and I am going to prove it"

...point taken...but in alternate shot I would be more inclined to want a Fred Funk type for a partner. Tigers game is such a different game than anyone else that I don't think it's compatible with anyone else. Therefore a tough partner for anyone paired with him.

I think Jim Furyk, if Lehman goes that route which I think he will, will do fantastic with Woods as his partner. Furyk is one of the best ball strikers on tour, and hes been atop the leaderboard all year long.

I only agree with you somewhat. You need someone that won't "Tiger" watch all day. I don't think it has anything to do with "compatibility" of games.

Golf is played one shot at a time. It doesn't matter how the ball got there or who hit it. Tiger's partner needs to focus on that. That's why Tiger will have Furyk or DiMarco as his partner...they are both extremely strong between the ears.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a shorter course, set up by Europe to "disable" the bomber American length off the tee. Granted, it will still be long enough to need driver some times for Tiger, but not as necesary as usual. I think Furyk will be OK from the fairway 30-70 yards back of his usual position as he is one of the best iron players on the planet.

I hope Tiger and Phil use driver on every single hole. And they both go for every risk-reward shot possible. Especially those ones out of the rough from 250 with a 3-wood, under trees, over some more etc etc etc...!!!!

And Tom, please pair Phil with Tiger again - please??

Oh yeah GO EUROPE..!!!!

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
