Went to the range a couple days ago with a buddy. He had a set of "vintage" Wilson blades (did not get the model), so I tried them out. This was the first time I had ever swung a blade. Now I am a mid-high handicapper who games relatively forgiving MX-25s (very happy with them), but found that I could hit his irons almost as well as mine. I was able to hit the 3 iron consistently straight about 180-190 yards, 5 iron about 160 yards. Any other mid-high handicappers ever had an experience like this? Despite what salesmen and clubmakers tell you, maybe blades aren't just for very low handicappers? It was definitely very satisfying to be able to hit the blades well!

You and I are about the same handicap, I play blades.....love them.....a well struck iron shot is a thing of pure beaty and feels like butta I prefer the workability and trajectory of the blades, as well as the thin topline and classic look/feel.

In my experience with cavity backs, you get a little higher ball flight and they are a little more forgiving outside the sweet spot, but many of them are also have a bigger face than my irons, kinda like a 460cc driver effect....don't let anyone scare you away - play whatever you can hit and whatever makes you happy....

Perm is right play what you like and what you can hit. I play blades, I learned with blades, I tried Ping Eye 2s last year coming back to the game and it wasn't right for me. Now have a new set of Mp-68s and I'm working on bringing that HC number down.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

Why make things harder for yourself? I''ve got a blade 3i in my bag only because it can get under the wind, fair enough it isn't the hardest club in the world to hit but there's still a 20% chance of messing up. If you mess up with a Blade your in trouble, you'll be 10-20 yards short. With a CB you'll hardly notice most mis-hits. So fair enough play blades if you want to but in my opinion they're not worth it unless your a consistent ball striker.

Consistently good or just consistent? What if your typical misses pin-high left or right - is that consistent?

I'm very happy with my cavities and am not planning on switching to blades anytime soon. One day though I will own Wilson Goosenecks!

Your striking it pretty consistent if you can hit it pin high so I'd say yes that is good consistent.

you'd want to be striking the ball in the centre of the club, on plane.

blades are not *that* hard to hit.

i played 3 rounds of golf in Tennessee when i was visiting my mom with a set of borrowed wilson staff tour blades.. i shot my usual scores...

the rounds were actually alot more satisfying... i still dream about that 210 yard 4 iron into the wind that came to rest 2 ft from the hole....

I would try out the blades on a course or at least a grass driving range before making any decisions.

It's easier to have a consistent strike on a flat and level mat than on the course where it counts.

Try the MP 33 blades, I play them and love them and lowered my golf scores.

A different thread already exists that debates this topic ad nauseam. I will say to the dude that posted that nasty picture, wow that was unnecessary. I think I will go brush my teeth now.
