Actually never played White Lick. I have a cart bag and isn't it true that you can't ride White Lick? Pittsboro kind of serves the same purpose for me, a cheap "cow pasture" where you can score low. How long are the Par 4's at White Lick?

Yeah, White Lick is walking only unless you have a medical condition or are old. I also have a cart bag but I just rent a push cart to use for it.

I think the average Par 4 is right around 300 yards or slightly above that. Long hitters can overpower the course pretty easily so I generally try and focus on strategy to use different clubs in my bag.

Another Indiana member, another Cardinal fan (grew up in St. Louis).... but I'm on Indy's Northside. Been to both Brownsburg and The Haute 100 times each on buisness.

I am also living in Brownsburg right now though only for the next 2.5 weeks. I have been wussing out until recently, it's just been too hot and the course conditions too awful to go play.

You know for the money Saddlebrook is a great course. I really enjoy playing there.

Purgatory north of Noblesville is one of my all-time favorite courses, and I've played Bethpage Black.

The Fort is Fantastic. Both have buy one get one free green fees coupons in The Zoo Book or other similar promotional books. River Glen (near 116th and Allisonville in Fishers) is also a good, semi-private track. BOGO Free for it as well. Coffin downtown is great, but I have not played there in a long, long time, but hear good things. Pebble Brook in Westfield is strong, but it's private I think. Golf Club of Indiana between Lebanon and Brownsburg is nice, but not spectacular. Sahm Park GC is a city parks track, well known if only for the fact that it was one of Pete Dye's very first (maybe THE first?) courses. Plain Jane, not too long, but a Northside classic. I played a ton of high school tournaments there, and we would always introduce ourselves on the first tee box. "Hi, I'm Bryan, nice to meet you, welcome to Sahm National." We would dead-pan it... to try to get a reaction. Some guys it flew right over their heads, some guys busted out laughing.

Crooked Stick in Carmel is THE best (1991 PGA Championship, 2009 US Senior Open, and a Solheim Cup) but I don't know any members... so haven't played there, just worked tournaments/attended.

Stoney Creek in Noblesville is a decent course. Not real long, but the greens are always in good shape and there are some strategy tee shots, tight holes, doglegs, etc. They have a Par 3 course there that is as good as any I have played. It's only $5 for kids too. Holes range from about 80 to about 140. Some sand, water on two, with greens that all have fringes cut, rough around the greens, aprons and landing areas, etc. Very well put together little nine.

I played a course in Brownsburg for a work outing last year... can't recall the name. Just outside of town a few miles, Nortwest of town, but on the SOUTH side of the Interstate. If you tried to get to it from the Northside of town you could not cross the highway and had to go back towards town (Lowes, Kroger, etc) and then back out Northwest. Nice course. Big clubhouse. Free golf, food and beer that day, which was nice.

Just played both of these on a golf trip last weekend. Friday was The Fort. Great course but S-L-O-W play. Had the course way overcrowded. We played 36 and our first round was 5.5 hours. Second round wasn't much better; still extremely slow.

Saturday we played Purgatory (another 36). Course was damn near empty. It had rained overnight and was kind of spitting rain; more like a drizzle...but there was hardly anyone out there. Big tip here: make sure you have your sand wedge with you. Wow...lots of bunkers. Plays some ridiculous yardage from the tips-like 7,750. We did not play from the tips. :)

But I think the consensus favorite we played on the trip was Prairie View. Course was in incredible shape. We also played Plum Creek...another nice course but after playing the other three it was kind of hum-drum.

What a great thread! I was born and raised in Terre Haute and went to ISU before I moved to Texas 30 years ago. In May I went up for the Indy 500 and the day before the race my brother and I drove to Clinton and played Geneva Hills. It was a truly wonderful course, although I must admit that I found the tee shot on the par three 12th a little intimidating!

Hello, I'm a Bloomington native, now out west. I didn't golf much when I was there, just a few times at the Par 3 and a few times at the IU course. Played out there last Thanksgiving when I was at home and had fun, hoping to do the same at Christmas if the weather allows

Well not this year, I work in Anderson and they held training camp there at Anderson University, and something like 83,000 went there over 2 weeks, compared to they said 20,000 last year at Rose Hulman. Any way I live in Alexandria north of Anderson and if you get the chance Royal Highlands south of I-70 at St Rd 109 in Henry Co. well that is a real nice course, in Anderson I play Meadowbrook, and Yule in Alexandria....both decent courses.

Terre Haute... city of the big smell! I find myself back here after bouncing around the country for the better part of the past decade. I just started playing about a month and a half ago when I bought a used set of clubs off a guy here in town and took them down to Fore Seasons and started knocking them around. I hit up the range there probably twice a week and run through their little 9 hole course probably just as much. I also play at Mark's Par Three out by Seeleyville and I occasionally head out to Rea Park when I want to play "real" golf. I've got my handicap down around 15 since I started playing and I'm using the remainder of this year as a kick-around period where I'm learning how far I can hit shots, what I need to work on and such. I hope to be good enough by Summer to enter a scramble without embarrassing myself and maybe somewhere in the single digits.

Anyway, nice to know there's at least one other person in the Haute that plays golf and also knows how to use the internets.
