ok does anyone here get ball marks on top of your woods right above the face?

Only when I loan it to somebody. My current clubs (G10 and launcher 3w) are off limits.

Tee the ball lower - they're called "idiot marks" for a reason (sort of joking). Edit: Sky marks - do you think I could remember that term!?!?! Duh!!

Sky marks are not good. My driver is clean, but I do have a friend who's TaylorMade Burner looks like it has been through a war.

the only marks on my club are from scraps againts my golf shaft i kept in it, it really put some good marks on my dirver. I use to have sky marks all the time, they are usually caused by lunging at the rather than staying back and delofting the driver. You might think then why am i hitting it higher, because you are increasing backspin.

Even with my beginner clubs I didn't have this problem... I've always been more prone to topping balls, if I'm going to miss either up or down, however.

Never heard of a single digit having this problem. This is a beginner mistake probably caused by either teeing it up too high or de-lofting the wood somehow before impact so the top of the clubhead catches the ball.

No. But I tee the ball pretty low (about 1 3/4 inches), so it's very unlikely that I could ever get the whole clubface under the ball.

mmm....some dam fine strikers of the ball on these here forums

Anyway, sure there are single digit cappers that get those idiot marks. It's tough to do with a driver but it can be done. After a marathon range session last year I missed a ball so bad that I put one on the toe And yes, I have also put them on my fairway woods trying to dig a ball out of a fluffy lie. Common, no....has it happend, yes.

Maybe some day I'll be good enough not to

Ugh, i wish mine would wipe off. Unfortunately, I have two or three spots right on the edge where the fiberglass material joins the metal face of my driver where there's a chip of the fiberglass material missing. I figure this way I'll always be able to identify MY driver, like a fingerprint. But it pissed me off to put two of those on the first time I took it out. I don't even tee high, but sometimes come through really steeply.

I have a few on my 3w from teeing too high when I first got started. I;ve since realized I hit much better when the ball is tee'd really low, almost iron low. I normally tee to where the top quarter of the ball is above the face. My big problem now is hitting drives off the heel. Usually when I overswing.

I'm not sure that it is a matter of being a good striker, it is just where you miss. As many have pointed out, if you tee the ball correctly for your swing it should not happen as an 8 handicap. I have never had it happen since I started. Plenty of ball marks all over the face of my driver though...I'm not one of those boring players that keeps it all in one spot.

I don't see how a low handicapper could miss the ball that badly with a colossaly oversized 460cc face... just sayin'

Or . . . maybe if you were

bad enough to remember hitting somewhere between 3 and 6 (lost count) consecutive popups using your 3 and 5 woods from the rough (in ~ 1994 - Golden Ram persimmons) you'd remember vowing to never do it again. Besides sky marks don't show up on my 5-iron.
