I just got this e-mail from The Golf Academy on a new training device. I'll be starting up there this Fall and am super stoked. I'm a total golf nerd so stuff like this makes me giddy - I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it.


The Golf Academy of America, San Diego Campus has received the Trackman.

does the Golf Academy of America work like the local physical thearpy college? In that you can go in on selected days and get discounted a discounted sports message by a student who is under the watchful eye of a licensed instructor?

In other words do they give out discounted lessons by students as training?

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

That's good question. It seems to me it would be a win, win, win. GAA Student gets experience. GAA gets some added income. Somebody gets a discounted golf lesson.

A quick internet search turned up some posts claiming a cost of 20 to 30k US. Funny thing was, these guys were talking about buying it for their home. I guess now that I think about it, some people spend 10 to 20k on home entertainment rooms, so the Trackman price isn't that crazy. Definitely not in my budget though.

usually the students don't get to bank any money from these types of things. Cosmotology and Barber schools do the same thing, and the school uses it as a profit center, possibly to offset cost. It is more for somebody getting a cut rate lesson and the student being given some supervised real world experience.

Either way, I don't live near the school, but I was just curious.

I just found out that, yes, 4th semester students give discounted golf lessons under the supervision of a PGA instructor. The lesson rate at GAA San Diego is $25 for a 45-minute lesson.

Yup, they're expensive as anything, but give it a few years and that sort of tracking tech will be in reach for the average golfer too. Trackman's main competitor, Flightscope, just came out with a new unit priced at $7K, so the barrier to entry is getting lower.

      @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.

      Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!

      Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
