I picked up a partial set of Parallax irons yesterday - 4, 6-9 for $2.99 at Value Village - they have brand new Golf Pride full cords. I was going to give them to my brother, but after I cleaned them up, I had an epiphany. This would make an interesting backup set.

Here's the other stuff I threw together in an old bag.
Driver: 9* BB Warbird
2H: 4dx 17*
5 wood: Eagle 21*
4, 6-9 irons: Parallax
50* Wedge: Tom Watson
56*: VIP
64* wedge
Putter: Ray Cook mallet

This is clearly not the set I'll use every day, but I'm look forward to taking them out on an easy course - for kicks.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

I have an old set of Tommy Armour 855s's that I have a sentimental attachment to, as my backup set.

I don't have a backup set, but I've got my old set.

3-wood: Pro Select
4-PW: Olyo P2
Hybrid: Olyo 19º and 23º
Wedges: Olyo 52º, Cleveland CG12 56º, 60º, 64º
Putter: ProFound Dark Ace

Decent set of clubs except for the 3 wood, which is a really cheap club. The irons are game improvement big cavities, I don't like the weight of them, too heavy. The hybrids are decent, square head, very easy to hit. Wedges obviously good, got the 64º mostly for fun to fool around with. The putter is nice, but I decided to change to a blade putter, which I like better. The set can be used by friends or family.

I've got an old set of Titleist DCI 962 irons... which I still think feel great for old cast cavity backs. Also kicking around the garage is a set of adams assault irons (circa 1990?), the original Ping TiSi driver, TM R580XD, a Titleist 975D, Callaway GBB 9.5, Callaway Steelhead 3, a few 2 irons, and a handful of old vokey and cleveland wedges.

Come to think of it... I should have a garage sale.

In the Bag: TaylorMade R11 TP - TaylorMade R7 TP TS - Cleveland Halo - TM TP 2009 3-PW - Vokey SM 52 - Vokey SM 60 - Rife Barbados CS - ProV1x

Not sure why someone who plays once or twice a week needs a"backup" set.
Backup set = a set of clubs that never gets used.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I have enough clubs in the basement for 2 extra sets...

Callaway BB 460
Callaway X 3 wood
nickent 3dx hybrid
Mizuno mx-23 4-pw
cleveland cg 12 52, 56, 60
Scotty newport 2 or 1996 ram zebra

This would be the back up I would use if needed

Not sure why someone who plays once or twice a week needs a"backup" set.

I've been playing the same set of irons off and on for many years, so there's no concern of them wearing out - more likely they'd get stolen by accident if someone boosts my car. None of my iron sets is really a true backup set, they're just other sets I use. I even leave an old set at my parent's place because you never know.

BTW, did you notice the quotation marks around "backup set" in the title? Believe it or not, some people shoot approximatel the same score with any set of irons, and since variety is the spice of life, wtf, eh?

I'm still recovering from getting my car broken into and getting my entire set stolen. No money for a back up anytime soon.

I'd love to have my old Titleist DCI990 set and Mizuno TZoid Pro set back to use as a back up.

I don't have a backup set. My old set had stiff shafts, and I switched out for regular flex last summer.

I have kept my two previous sets of golf clubs for sentimental and historical reasons.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I haven't changed clubs in a while but since I'm getting back into the game more again (I had ACL surgery last summer) I might pull out my KZG forged blades. GREAT clubs when I was playing a ton a few years ago but I'm not ready to play with them quite yet.

I dont really have a backup set. Ive got some clubs lying around (set of Titleist DCI 981s, a Ping Anser and an old Mizuno putter) but not enough to make a full set.

I have a spare set that I use when people come to visit and haven't brought their clubs. My son uses them when I can get him on the course, and my cousin is using them right now when I can talk him into playing.

It consists of:

Cleveland Hibore XLS driver
cheap Ping G10 copy 3 and 5 wood
3 and 4 hybrids MaxFli BlackMax
5-PW of some Turbo Power R9TP look-a-likes
Acuity 56 degree Wedge
Top-Flite putter

Not really a backup set, more like a cheaper set of nice hitting clubs for people who come into town.

My signature shows enough clubs to make up two full sets-the backup is whichever ones I decide to leave in the garage on the day I go to the course.

Just the driver and surviving irons (4,6,7,8,9,PW) from my starter set and the TaylorMade Burner 6I I got from their promotion. They're in a cardboard box in my closet since I only have one bag. Actually I've been carrying the Burner iron around in case I needed to hit off a terrible lie or something, but after picking up a couple wedges and a 3W this afternoon, I'm actually at 14 clubs I mean to use, so I guess I'll pull that out of the bag...

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
