Erik's Hips Forward "Pre-Set Drill" Video

So I practiced this drill and it really helped me understand my impact more. I found that I was probably hitting too far in front of the ball before. This drill helped me to understand how my impact should be. I was hitting shots without a full swing nearly as far as my full swing ones because my impact was so good. Now my question is, How do I transfer this drill into my full swing so that I will have the same contact with the ball as with the drill (half swing). Im not quite there yet.

Re: Erik Barzeski's Video

The drill is more about pushing the hips forward than anything else. You can combine it into a good "straight arms" and "hit fast, stop fast" (the latter of which I didn't really emphasize in this video) drill too, but it's more about where the hips should be at impact.

A LOT of golfers hit the ball fat or thin because of the same flaws - their hips and thus their weight are too far back at impact. So they flip and hit it thin and fat all day because their hips haven't pushed forward into the proper position at impact.

So, you might have mis-used the drill slightly. Unless when you said you were "hitting too far in front of the ball" you mean "behind the ball" (to the left of the ball in the caddie view from my video).

Thanks Colin. That Erik Barzeski's a tool. When you want good advice, always make sure your Erik is the "J" variety. The "J" guarantees quality.

Getting into early position to hit. Nothing else matters. Reach for the target in setup...healthy sling up The Wall in takeaway...contain the energy to delayed release. "What is attained by force must be retained by force."
