Well I'm the latest to be hooked by this monster.....

Read so many great reviews about how high and long this driver is and decided to take the plunge.

This thing is SUPER long! I was regularly hitting about 30ft up on the net at the end of the range that says 250yds. Now in reality it may only be 225yds but in comparison to my R9 it was easily 15ft higher on the net than I can normally hit. What was also surprising was the ability to hit it straight with the stupid long/light shaft.

Will probably cut it down to 45 or so but since the shaft is so light I may be forced to put some lead powder in there or purchase a heavier one for it.

Anyone else try it out? I am going to get the matching fairway woods in place of my 07 Burners.

I tried one out at a local Dicks Sporting Goods but just cant afford $400 for a new driver, it might have been the Supertri, dont remember for sure but it felt good. Im working currently on hitting both of my cheapo drivers better and am making good progress, had a good range session today, not sure which one I like better, still undecided but at least now its because im hitting both of them pretty good instead of hitting both of them poorly.

Don't touch it!!!! TM pays engineers BIG BUCKS to come up with ideas. Leave it long and don't add head weight. Contrary to most people on this forum, I believe a under 200g head, under 60g shaft at 46" long with a 25g grip(Winn Lite) produces a driver with a dead weight of 275 g that any golfer with half a swing can hit longer and straighter with.

i have an 09 burner, wish i had an R9.
The shaft is riddiculous long, you'll hit my fairways and be in safe zones without the 46.5 inch shaft

Monster, you got it right there - it looks like a monster, but that's about as far as it goes.

What is it with Taylor Made - almost every single club they make (with the exception of the TP models) has a shaft 6 inches longer than everything else out there and is a full club stronger in loft. Before long they'll come out with a 21 degree pitching wedge.

Longer yes, straighter no. The longer the shaft, the harder it is to hit straight. There is a reason most tour players play thier drivers around 44.5".

Why would someone hit a lighter driver with a longer shaft straighter than a heavier driver with a shorter shaft? It seems completely contradictory and I would love to hear a more in depth explanation of your claim.

Lighter club allows you to swing it faster. More clubhead speed should produce more ball speed which makes the ball go farther. I can swing a sledge hammer which is much heavier with a shorter handle than a club at the ball and it will not go farther even though the sledge hammer is heavier and shorter allowing me more control.

Loft isn't any stronger than before, its a driver. Shaft is longer and the club is lighter.

And as is, the club is longer than anything I have swung before. I'm not the only one, check out WRX and some other reviews. There are alot of pro's bagging it right now albiet w/o the stock shaft at a shorter length.

I was surprised how straight the club was at 46.5". I had impact tape on the face and contact was solid.

Man, you sound like a broken record. Every time someone posts about a long shafted driver, you write the same response.

You make it seem like the club is impossible to hit. Have you swung this club? I have and it's fine. Not my preference but it does just fine. BTW, Where are you coming up with 44.5" as the average length for a tour player's driver?

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

With the cost, its a moot point for me and probably many on here. I just cant plop down that kind of cash for brand new technology that probably wont help someone with my skill level a noticeable amount, if at all. I played last weekend 2 drivers in my bag and their combined cost was under $50 new and I can hit both of them decent, just cant make a decision on which one to use so Ive left both of them in the bag.

I believe this is one of the cheaper, new designs out there at $250. That is cheaper than the R9, FT-iz, and G15.

I got mine for $200 on ebay. I think $250 is the standard price for it, I've never seen if for more than that.

You're right, I was purely having a dig at TM. I'm not sure there's many pros 'bagging it', not in its off the shelf variant anyway - the face is a few degrees closed, so in the hands of a good player it'll hook the hell out of anything! Perhaps there is a TP version, but still, I reckon there's more R9s out there than there are Burner Superfasts.

The Burner superfast, as are most TM clubs, who are only concerned with distance, not control or accuracy. It's' for guys who like to bust drives all day long at the driving range, so they can brag to their teenage buddies how far up the fence they can hit the occasional shot. It is clubs like the Burner Superfast that are responsible for the increasing internet driving distance of amateur golfers they hit one good one to the back of a range and that immediately becomes their driving average. sigh. I'd much sooner take my current driving distance along with the consistency my current driver gives me, rather than add another 5% or whatever it is TM reckon the Burner Superfast gives you, and the inconsistency the 46.5 shaft brings.

A few pro's that have used the club this year:
Retief Goosen, CHIII, Sergio, Dustin Johnson, Y E Yang, and Justin Rose

There is a TP version available which I believe can be pre-ordered but is not completely available yet (dont hold me to it). A few of these players have been photographed using the TP and the regular head. NO they do not play it at the standard length, with the standard shaft, and the head is most likely bent open. At the events each vendor has a trailer available to pros gaming their equipment to build/adjust clubs for.

No one mentioned average distances or claimed to bomb it 300yds each time they grip the club. My point was simply to state that it was by far longer than anything I have hit and was surprisingly straight with the long shaft.

I am happy you are happy with your current club. This was just to give you my experience with the club.
