Do you get mad at the golf course?

Thread Starter
Ill admit, i have a bad temper and snap at petty things. But nothing pisses me off more than playing shit golf. After about the 3rd of 4th slice i really start to get wound up.

So i had a bit of anger on the weekend, belted a few clubs on my bag etc. (didnt throw any lol) not thinking much of it i finished my round in disgust and drank it off in the club house.

Well when i pull out my hybrid today i go to address the ball and something catches my eye. The shaft has a huge bow in it. It was a pretty big bend, tried to bend it back but its still crooked.

Now i have an excuse to buy a new club.

Whats the worst you have done to your clubs, yourself or someone else out of frustration?

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

This post might be better too in a section other than the equipment section.

The only thing that bothers me is slow play. It is the cancer of golf. I don't however flip out and do anything like you say you do. I won't play with club throwers, guys that beat their bag, yeller or screamers or anyone that throws childish fits on the course. People that act this way on the golf course, more than likely have issues with everything in life. Could be time to find another hobby. Boxing maybe?

Slamming clubs on your bag, bending shafts, then "drinking it off". It sound like you really need to grow up, and get your life under some control. I hope you didn't get into a car after drinking off your anger.

I used to get ticked off, however, I have came to the understanding that it only makes me worse.

Slow play really ticks me off too. Everyone plays at a different pace, but if you are the start of a back up... please dont hit 3 balls on every shot.

Never! Golf is a source of enjoyment. If you get that mad(or mad at all in my mind), you need to quit golf. It is just not for you.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

My biggest and only agravation factor is, the men's club at my local course. They take the best tee times, almost all day, then play little choose up's every time , and now they travel as a pack to one ball at a time standing behind it stroking each other off, then make a crap shot, then repeat again down the hole 3 more times. Saturday I play a "fun round " in a lighting quick 5 hrs. 10mins. Clubhouse response.....they are the reason the course is in business. Yeah I get mad enough to hit someone when clowns like this are ruining a good day of golf.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

I always try and keep my feelings at a medium, not too high not too low, or it can screw everything up for ya. You have to enjoy it anyways, it doesnt get much better then walking around a great golf course on a sunny spring day.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

I used to get pissy when I first started playing ( just bad attitude, not throwing clubs or anything ). Then I played in my High School team and one guy said to me when he coudl tell I was frustrated "Hey, you're not Tiger Woods, so relax"....now I never get pissed off.

Sure, I get disappointed sometimes, but I have good playing partners and we just laugh at ourselves....

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

I get pissed when I lose a ball. ESPECIALLY when I see where it landed, but I'm a cheapo.

When I hit A bad shot I usually just call myself an dumbass and move on...

If I did not meet my goal as one of the top player in the golf course I'll get mad..

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

I wouldn't say mad. No. I sometimes get very frustrated with myself - when making bad decisions or my swing just breaks down and I completely miss hit the ball. But I try and keep it to myself and yell at myself in my head. Frustrated with myself, yes - but mad, no. If I'm really having that bad of round that I am feeling pissed off (which I don't think I've ever gotten to that point and don't know what that point is, exactly), I'd rather just stop mid round and pack it in for the day. No sense in getting mad at yourself, or worse yet, let your anger ruin what should be an enjoyable activity for anyone who might be golfing with or near you.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

yeah it's probably one of my faults right now. i've thrown my club only once, but usually I just start cussing and have a really pissy attitude if I hit a couple bad shots lol. but i'm working on it, just started playing seriously so I gotta realize it takes time to improve.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

I have a bad habit of saying "you suck" after I do something poorly. Then I laugh it off and usually say "oh well, next shot" just because saying it outloud kind of re-enforces that the shot is over and you do infact have to move on to the next one.

I've broken one club before and it was out of psuedo anger. I was playing a horrible round and tried to mock snap my club over my knee when a friend was looking, just to kind of show I had enough for the day, and I mocked a little too hard, bent the club and had to get it re-shafted. Last time I'll ever throw a club or anything like that even if I'm kidding around.

I feel embarassed for others when they get angry and throw their clubs, and if seeing someone else get all pissy doesn't make you think that's how you dumb you look when you get angry then you have a lot to learn.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

I get mad after my bad shots for 10 seconds then I am fine. I rarely stay angry. Maybe if me and the wife are fighting that will bleed into golf and I am just in a bad mood period. But normal day, I don't stay mad, just a few seconds, curse word or two, maybe three. Then I'm done.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

Oh man..ive done all kinds of crap to clubs. Threw a 4 iron into a lake once, which i dove into later to fish it back..lol. Broken shafts over trees. Even broke a club over my knee once. (cut up my hand pretty good too). Im pretty attached to the clubs i have now, though. So i wouldnt do anything to hurt them. Except for the wedges, they can feel the wrath.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

The most you'll ever hear out of me is a "hurumph". I certainly can get frustrated but I'm pretty even keeled. I've never thrown a club in my life.

I whacked my bag with a 7-iron and snapped my Fujikura driver shaft in two. That was two or three years ago and it was the last time I did it.

Golf's challenges -- well, let me say....how I *react* to golf's challenges gives me a good glimpse of how I deal with the frustrations of life in general. Whacking the bag? Not very effective. Pouting, drinking -- same, and that used to be my reaction. I learned and taught myself to handle mistakes or challenges with more grace and to take it easier on myself and now I can save a hole after a bad shot or two and save a round after a bad hole or two and also find a way to enjoy myself the whole time.

What's interesting is that observing my own behavior on the golf course and correcting it there has paid dividends in my life as a whole. Thanks to golf, I deal with all kinds of situations now with more calm, and the results have been great for me (and for anyone associated with me). Sure, I can snap, but it reaaaaaaaaly rare and never now related to my own problems at the course.

I think you can use golf to learn about yourself and, if you want, fix a few things.

Re: Do you get mad at the golf course?

I originally thought I'd end up being a better golfer than I am. I used to get mad at poor play back then. I realized I probably wasn't going to get where I wanted to be playing once or twice a week max for 7-8 months a year, but I work 5 days a week and can't golf everyday. Those limitations being accepted... I'm getting better anyway. I learned that getting mad only affected the rest of the round and did nothing to help the next shot....I tamed down to temporary frustration and I enjoy golf alot more. Slow play is my greatest challenge in RE to losing my temper.
