Sandhills / Pinehurst - anyone played these courses?

I am going to play Tobacco Road, Anderson Creek, and Foxfire East and West. I only live about 2 hrs away and I am taking a trip with a golf buddy to play 4 rounds and stay one night.

I have already played a few in the area... Pine Needles, Southern Pines, Whispering Pines, Legacy Golf Links, Tot Hill Farm.

Anyone played any of those four or have any comments on the Pinehurst / Sandhills area. I know T-road is pretty wild and most hate or love it, but even those who hate it say they are glad they played it once. I have played Tot Hill which is also Mike Strantz, and while I would hate to play it often is is fun 1-2 times a year. The other 3 courses I booked are much more traditional. I was just curious if anyone had played any of them.

To me, Tot Hill was alot hiller than Tobacco. Only played one of the Foxfire courses - more of a traditional course obviously. Enjoyed them both, you'll have a good time.

Went last year and played Tobacco Road, Legacy, The Pit, and Southern Pines. I really liked Tobacco Road. We had a 2 hour delay after 10 holes due to a thunderstorm and when we went back out the course wasnt the same. Standing water in waste areas, greens very wet and slow. Definately want to play it again with better conditions. Legacy was very nice, Southern Pines was nice. Didnt really care too much for The Pit. We are going back again next month and playing Mid Pines and Pine Needles and probably another one or possibly 2 if we can work it in.

I didn't play Pine Needles until my fourth or fifth trip to SP. In retrospect, I would have played Pine Needles from the first trip on. Expensive, but a great course and more affordable the Pinehurst.

When are you going next month? We will be there June 15 and 16, and maybe another day depending on our schedules. Any idea what 2 you might work in... I have heard Longleaf is pretty nice as well as Little River

I absolutely loved that course... I have heard Mid-Pines is fantastic as well. One of these days I'll go back and play both along with Pinehurst #2.

A group of 8 of my friends and I are going down to Pinehurst in July. Any suggestions for cheaper and/or easier courses? Half of us aren't very good at golf and I would hate to pay 100+ bucks for my buddies to hack it around.

I am thinking one day we would play an easier course, and another day we'd split up and the better players would play one of the courses listed in this thread.

Couldnt get everyones schedules together for next month. Now we are going July 16-17. Several of us are wanting to play Tobacco Road again, and a couple are not, so the other courses are up in the air right now. Going to play Mid Pines and Pine Needles for sure.

Most courses will have several tee boxes and most courses in that area aren't overly tricked up (T-road and the Pit being 2 exceptions). July is a good time since it is VERY hot and most courses are little cheaper at this time. I would definately try to have everyone play at least one Donald Ross course... Pinehurst #2 and Pine Needles being the BIG 2, but Southern Pines is a much more affordable option if you want to sample a classic Donald Ross course... and it is short and very playable for most anyone. My brother-in-law loved it and he has only cracked 100 once in his life. Nothing about Legacy Golf Links or Whispering Pines, or even Pine Needles made them tough for a beginer... my wife played all three with me, and her best score was at Pine Needles, but she also loved the other two. I wouldn't get too hung up on difficulty, maybe just make sure I played a couple of the older more historic type courses, and a couple new ones.
