Has your wife (or husband) complained that you play to much golf, that it costs to much money, that its a stupid way to spend your time / money, etc?

As with most hobbies, if you are not involved in it, you can't justify the cost of it. Golf is not a cheap hobby (but I will stand to reason, no hobby worth doing, is)

Additionally, like most hobbies, people want to dedicate as much time to it as they can spare, because it proves to be an excellent distraction to the stress of everyday life.

So I ask you, the fine men and women of TST, does Golf cause tension in your relationship, and how do you deal with it?

My wife and I have for the most part agreed with what is an acceptable amount of golf, and I never let Golf get in the way of other plans that we have together. But she also understands that any idle time, and extra cash that I may have is probably going to be dedicated to practice, playing, lessions, etc.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Smooth sailing over here. Whenever I do something nice for my wife and she says "Thanks, baby!" I say something like "Any time - you're always cool with my golfing, so thank you too."

My wife likes the game as much as I. We are fixing to take a vacation trip to the Smokies. She asked if we could take our new clubs and play a round. I guess you could say that we don't have problems with the game and how much time it takes. The only stress it causes with us is when she takes what I deem as too much time after a shot to clean her clubs perfectly and get it arranged just right in her cart bag. She is proud of her new Callaways... I don't like being pushed by the ones behind, so I tend to try to keep things moving. It's really tough on my patience when the 12 year old is with us. She's slooooow. I have to constantly stay on her about rushing. I know that if you are in a hurry, golf is the wrong game for you, but I am also very conscience about the people following and don't want to hold them up too much. Etiquette is high on my priorities when it comes to the game of golf.

My parents complain when i have been at the golf club all day. They give me lift there and back, so i repay them in doing housework and such. I am only 17, and in the UK you can only drive when you are 17, so i guess i do rely on them a great deal.

I'm the dedicated (though struggling) golfer, and my wife is the hot-and-cold golfer.

Lately, our life has become very cluttered: Increased admin reports where I work, my mother-in-law has put her house up for sale, I had surgery in January. Also, have done several projects around the house, and need to do some more: get work done on the crawl space, replace the fence, remove a tree and replace a major bush with a tree. The clutter and projects compete for time, and also for $$.

As for golf, I try to announce a few days ahead when I want to play. If something truly important pops up, I'll cancel, but if it's a nicety I skip it and play.

My wife is not very tall, so golf can be rough for her at many courses. If we could close out some projects, we could possibly join a nearby club which is only 4,600 yds. from the front women's tees. She could get some pars once in awhile. All the courses in our area have ladies' tees, but half of them are hardly women-friendly.

Also, she thinks I spend too much time on this blog.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Has your wife (or husband) complained that you play to much golf, that it costs to much money, that its a stupid way to spend your time / money, etc?

Is it ever!!!! Everytime I want to play it comes down you rather play golf than spend time with your familiy!!! We have worked out a schedule, but it still is not enough golf for me...I try to play twice a month, once on the weekend, and once a 9 practice round during the week.

For me it's a bit complicated, as I hold a regular job, I have a startup company, and trying to get into Grad School, so she does have some argument for my time...but I need my golf!!!!
My wife likes the game as much as I. We are fixing to take a vacation trip to the Smokies. She asked if we could take our new clubs and play a round.

A buddy of mine taught me very early on the best way to do this....after each shot, hop in the car, clean while partner drives, and store when you get your next shot. I found to be great club management advice, while keeping the pace of the game. Only on instances where I have no idea where my ball is, I don't practice this, but for the most part is pretty sacred.

It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

my wife is great
I really dont have any other hobbies, now that i gave up backcountry snowmobiling
that was a HUGE expense - over $8k/winter

I golf mostly during the day in the week and only one day on the weekend
family is always first

It can cause some tension every once in a while. We have 3 kids and we each have a full time job. I work a regular M-F schedule and she can vary (she is an RN). I have every weekend off and sometimes she works one day or the other. Pretty much our whole life right now is work to home to work to home. I am lucky to play once or twice a month.

Just about any time I want to play, I get the "don't you want to spend time with me and the kids" line. Or "we don't ever get to spend much time together". I want to, but I also want to play golf with my friends. For some reason, she just doesn't get it that there is something I want to do outside of the house and family. It almost offends her that I want to leave the family and do something without them. She is very much into the 'family time'. I had it pretty nice growing up, but we were never the 'family time' family. Most of the time, everyone did what they wanted to do. So I can't really see her side of it, and she can't see mine. Hopefully, we will be able to meet close to the middle at some point.

The only time I go guilt free is a few events that I play in every year. These go back since before I met her so I always pull that card out for those. Luckily, she has become good friends with some girls at work and wants to get together with them from time to time. I NEVER give here any grief for going, hoping that I will receive the same treatment for golf.

I have an excess of time off from my job this year so I think what I am going to do is schedule random days off when I know she is working. The older kids will stay home as usual, I will drop off the youngest at day care as usual, then go play guilt free golf. Seems like the best thing to do. I might not be able to go with friends, but at least I will be playing.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Hahahaha, Ill tell you guys what, Next time your wife complains about spending money on golf, have her give me a call and let me shine a little light on the subject. Let me tell her know what an expensive hobby is. Try road racing motorcycles, I go to the track this tmonday and just got done putting on $600.00 worth of wheels and tires tonight. Theres is also a $200.00 dollar entry fee i have to pay when i get there, Not counting my other gear i have. My point is no matter what you do, if you enjoy it then it will cost lots of money. My wife hobbie is scrap booking i bet i would be surprised what we spend on that if we added everything up that she has (woooww)! So when it come to golf she is just happy its not bike parts! lol

I did a handful of track days with my old bike (SV650) and it was a TON of fun. It is an expensive hobby that is for sure. I remember doing the math and an average weekend would cost about $1000. For most people they do 6-7 weekends a year. So if you never broke any parts or crashed you were in about 6-7K plus the cost of the bike per season.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be
