So you go to the golf course and there's no practice green, or are you talking about practicing at home?

Just practice at home on the carpet. Or go buy a nice thin carpet that is used at offices and lay it on your hardwood floor or laminated floor. That would be some fast green there ;b.. But i would just practice the stroke. Get two golf balls, set them up just outside butter width and practice putting through them to nail the putting stroke.

I have a metronome I use for tempo and two bright orange sticks for alignment. I bought a piece of outdoor carpet.

Ya practice greens are kind of far for me to go.
Ranges are a lot closer so i usually just do that every day

I have tile throughout the house. I needed to purchase something to putt on. Check out ebay and search for putting green. djvsupplies sells a 6x12 piece of green carpet that works well. They say it rolls to a 10. I purchased one. 55.00 plus 20 for shipping. I can believe it rolls to a 10. It's sufficient in size, and rolls up and stores in the corner of my office.

I also made my own putting guide similar to Pelz's Putting Tutor. I used plexi glass from Lowes, drilled holes and used tees to putt through. I also used red tape for lines on the back, then painted it with black paint, all on the bottom. So from the top, it's smooth, and looks good, without reflecting bright light. If you prefer to purchase one: http://www.pelzgolf.com/dave_pelz_go...ing_tutor.aspx

My putting has been terrible this year and I couldn't figure out if it was a severe alignment problem or a stroke problem. On the practice green I can usually diagnose that using two pencils and a string drill, but at home in the basement it's a bit harder. I found out that using my laser level to draw a line on the floor works great.

Easily resolved that it wasn't alignment and was in fact a stroke problem and golfed the best nine hole round of my life last Sunday with only 13 putts and no three putts.

I worked on my stroke on my carpet at home this past winter. I focused on where my eyes were and rocking the shoulders. I use to stand on top of the ball with my eyes directly over it and my elbows would get stuck from time to time. Working with the shoulders and having the triangle remain constant has helped with a consistent stroke. I also stopped choking up on the grip and the weight of the putter head has a nice feel. I can now see why an inch on a putter shaft can make a huge difference in feel.

The significance of learning to hit a straight putt is underrated. My carpet allows me to putt around a 12-14 foot range. I worked on this on and off before the season and still do it every few days for only 15 minutes or so. No real set regiment. I usually pick out a spot on the carpet and work on the distance alone. I then turn to hitting the door trim on the bathroom door since it's smaller than a cup. My confidence in my putting is a lot higher and I've become more aggressive with my putts at the 10-15 foot distance. I don't make all of them, but I make a few more than I use to, so I figure I'm heading in the right direction.
Working on the 3-5 foot range helps for both those putts and longer putts. I use the door trim here as well.

Obviously, it's not the same thing as a real green, but I find I'm really only making adjustments to speed on the practice green before the round. Like every other part of the game, it's a perpetual pursuit. Naturally, my driving has disappeared completely. I lost 3 or 4 balls off the tee on Sunday.

I do this when I'm bored at home and grab my putter.

Draw a line around the circumference of the ball. Aligned the line pointed towards a target and practicing putting until the line drawn on the ball does not wobble. The line should just be a continuation as it rolls towards the target instead of the line wobbling left and right.

I work on this to make sure I'm not pushing or pulling in any way

you can focus on making solid contact and distance control regardless of what surface you are practicing on. its better to practice everyday than not to touch you putter at all.

1) posture,
2) distance to the club
3) hand position
4) motion of your backswing and foward stroke
5) rear shoulder lower?

you can work on different position for your putting stroke
