After reading the ads, seeing the players on tour and scowling at the hideous TM Superfast driver in the pro shops, I had a chance to hit one on a launch monitor today.

It's ugly, but it's real.

I am not a large guy, or a 'long hitter.' I'm 6'1'' and 170 lbs, and a good ball for me on the course is in the 275 - 295 range.

I was able to hit the TM Superfast and Superfast TP against my r7 425 TP today. I hit the superfast and superfast TP in a stiff with a 9.5 degree head. My r7 is setup with a stiff 75g shaft (45"), 8.5 degrees of loft with weights set for a D4 swingweight and a high draw.

Not only was the superfast longer than my r7 425 TP by about 15 yards, but shot dispersion was narrower. Launch angles were similar (r7 425 ~ 11, Superfast TP ~ 12), and spin rates were lowest (2600 rpm) with the r7 tp. The superfast drivers seemed to carry about 10-15 yards farther, with a bit more ball speed and roll. My least accurate drives came from the r7 425.

In theory, the distance and accuracy could be explained by an 8.5 vs 9.5 head, but the launch numbers were very similar between the r7 and Superfast TP. What I couldn't believe was how accurate and easy the distance was with the superfast. My 'misses' were all fairway balls, +/- 12 yards at most.

I didn't want to like it (at all), but the numbers don't lie. How did TM make a driver that is not only longer in length and distance, but also more accurate?

Anyone else spend a fair amount of time with one?

Wait till you hit a 300yd 3wood off the tee with the new SuperFast 3w......

I've been trying to tell people about this thing. The guys at work call it The Heater instead of a Burner after they saw a few 320yd drives I hit with it.

Whatever they did it has to be the longest driver out there and it would explain why so many guys on tour are hitting it.

However, with all of the great things I can say about this the club does nothing for improving your swing. The face is so hot that you literally think the drives you are hitting must be off the center of the face. I put some impact tape on it and found out that balls I was crushing still were not hit on the sweet spot.

Tee it up high if you want to reduce the spin and get a straighter drive. You will not lose any distance doing so with this thing.

There is no way in hell you are hitting a 3w 320 yards, most pros can't hit a driver 320 yards ....... with an index of 18 I'd say you're lucky to hit a 3w 240 yards down wind, down hill

I said 300yds, not 320. Off the tee with roll in the summer time + Superfast = possible. No reason to lie about it.

The 320 was with the driver & yes pros can hit a 3w over 300yds. Phil hit one to the back of the green yesterday with his to about 330yds. Both the driver and fairway wood are stupid long. Fairway wood seems to be prone to hooking however.

You should test it against the Cleveland Launcher DST.

That is a good idea. I hit the DST at a golf expo into a net (no monitor) and really liked the feel of it. I

l'll add that to the to-do list. Played last night, hit 6/7 fairways with my driver. Hard to imagine replacing it, but who knows.

why does everyone have to compare everythinng to the pros, like "Tiger hit his driver this far, so you can't hit any farther than that" not at all. you can hit the ball 300 yards with a three wood and not be a pro, but the handicap does seem a little high compared to the distance. But I am interested in trying out this driver, and its only 200 bucks new for the driver. great deal, seems like a great club

because if the best player in the WORLD cant do it, what makes you think a joe schmoe 18 handicap weekend duffer can do it.

The best players in the world can do it. The difference is that the best players in the world aren't swinging out of their shoes on the course like the average mid-handicap guy.

I've hit my 3 wood 300, I've hit my driver 350+. I don't claim to hit either that distance, as elevation, wind and fairways are never constant. Let's stay on topic.

After reading this thread I went and hit the superfast TP at the pro shop this morning. Could not hit it straight to save my life. Might have just been that my swing was a bit off, but I think it probably has more to do with getting used to that long shaft...I couldnt square the club face worth crap

  • 1 month later...
I've had mine for a couple months now. I love it. Love...it. It does take some getting used to because it's so light. I tend to choke the grip a little, so I had to loosen up to get a good feel for the club head. Yeah, it's a long, but I think it has great feel. You can really sense the golf ball compress when you catch one. Very forgiving as well. I'm using the stock Matrix HD6 shaft too. One last thing, the TP version has an open face, so that may cause problems if your normal ball flight is already left to right.
