I have decided to continue my search for a golf instructor to work with and wanted to see if you all know of anyone in the south central PA area. For now I would settle for someone on here to share some of their insight based on my swing videos. I can take many of all different clubs and shot types. So if any of you low cappers or instructors on here would like to help me out that would certainly be cool.

I would continue to post my swing in the instruction section but I get too many contradicting comments. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on a local instructor or offers to help.

bro I would recommend a instructor to work with you hands on. Call a local shop or a local course that you like and ask who they recommend you call. Posting your video online might help out a little but IMO it wont take you to that level you want to go.

This is my problem...the pros considered to be the ones worth going to around here are over $100 a lesson and I just can't afford to be taking several lessons at that kind of rate.

really? try a local non private course. We have the park district courses that are open to the public and they have a rate going of 30 a lesson and 100 for a package of 4. The instructors all have their pga license or whatever it is and each course has one who works there

What is the best way to find a pro in a certain area? Are they ranked by the PGA? Is there someplace you can find reviews of the local pros?

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Word of mouth is obviously the best.

What I've done is to find out a potential instructors lesson time. I've taken my lessons at ranges and muni's. I call up to arrange an appointment and there is the usual haggling over a time spot. I'll figure out when they have an already scheduled appointment that I can attend. I tell them I will call back to schedule an appt when my schedule clears up. Since they give their lessons at public ranges, I get a stall close enough to hear and observe their scheduled lesson. If I like how the instructor communicates, I'll catch him/her right after the lesson or call later.

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
