I am currently playing the Nike Power Distance Soft and really love the feel of the ball and like playing a softer ball, the only problem is now that I have the Z TP wedges from Taylormade I am very worried about them cutting the ball up and would like to know of any balls that are a bit more durable and play similar to the PD Soft. I would like to keep it under 30..

Also, is the Titleist DT Solo any more durable? I liked the way that ball played.

I didn't think those balls cut up much.

If your getting that much spin from them, maybe go down to a harder ball?

Try out the noodle+ long&soft.;
I like them.

How are the Burner balls? I know the TP Reds are good and also what about the TP Blacks?

Those balls are rocks arent they?
as far as i'm concerned
My TM Z wedge has cut up every ball i use
If you swing somewhat hard onthe shot itll cut
it'll stop after awhile but get used to it

then change to a rock.

You'll still be able to generate spin while the grooves are fresh. I was spinning back TP Reds from 30 yards for the first few weeks with my 60* vokey.

I play the TP Reds. Great ball but they do wear out easily. (My ball is usually a hop and stop so not much spin) Maybe try a harder cover/2 piece ball?

Ok well I guess I have a lot to try and debate myself lol. Anyways, what ball other than the Penta will get good spin and give some control around the greens?

TP red is a good ball but you'll cut it to shreds.

try some cheaper golf balls

Ok, well I think I may have narrowed it down.
List in no order

1. TM Burner TP
2. Titleist DT Solo
3. Callaway HX Bite
4. Bridgestone e6
5. Nike One Tour

What would you guys rank these in terms of spin, durability, and overall play. I am not too concerned about distance off the tee, I am hitting about 275 on a good drive.

Have you thought about the Pro V1 "practice" balls? They are the exact same as the normal ones, they just have PRACTICE stamped on one side. They are right at your price range of $30/dozen as well. Hard to beat that deal.

Ok, well I think I may have narrowed it down.

How did you manage to pick those out?

1. rock 2. semi-rock 3. soft 4. soft 5. soft a rock spins less but has more durability and vice-versa.

I think the "Soft" in Nike Power Distance Soft refers to the core, not the cover. If the cover isn't urethane, you probably don't need to worry about a wedge cutting it up. If you are still worried, Titleist has a policy that they will replace certain brands of balls (NXT, SoLo, NXT Tour?) if you cut them up -- they will give you a new sleeve.
Driver: Callaway Diablo Edge 10*
Woods: Mizuno F-60 (15*, 18*); Hybrids: Callaway FT-iZ 21*, Callaway X 24*
Irons: Mizuno MX 25 (5I - GW)
Wedges: Mizuno MP T Chrome (56/10), MP T-10 Black Satin (60/8)
Putter: Odyssey White Hot Tour #9

I also play the PD soft. Good distance and decent spin. Other similar balls that I have found are the Top Flite Gamer V2 (be sure to get the V2, the older Gamer balls scuff easily), Noodle long & soft, and Callaway Diablo.

A particular brand of wedge is not going to wear a particular ball more than some other wedge. All wedge grooves must meet the same USGA specs.

    • I’ll have to pay attention more attention to the area when I’m there. I know the area to the left of the bunkers off the tee is fescue/native vegetation but I can’t remember what’s around the tee boxes. Something to consider still is that you can’t see the green from the tee. You can’t even see all three bunkers IIRC. So I could have a line on the drive but still not know where it ends up. I think I’d be a lot more comfortable going with driver if I played here more regularly and had a log in my head of where shots tend to end up like I do at the other county courses. I have never hit driver on this hole off the blue tees. I have done it from the gold, but the length and angle are different, and during casual rounds when I didn’t care that much about score. I’m not sure the best time to try it is the second hole of a tournament. Or at the very least, I’m uncomfortable with the idea and that’s probably enough reason not to do it. I see what you’re saying. Wind is supposed to be pushing out more to the right on Saturday, too. I could probably aim right at the bunker and not end up in it. I don’t think there’s anything near the green other than that tiny bunker that would give me trouble. Well, trouble in addition to my short game deficiencies that is. Yea, me too. All I’m thinking is get it in play, put it near the green, chip on and two putt for 5. I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use my length as an advantage later. You realize all of this theory crafting will be moot when I chunk it off the tee, right? 😆

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
