Calling all instructors and swing doctors....

Don't get me wrong, I can hit the ball fine, I can score well, I don't hit fat all the time, and I don't thin it over the green. Since I started playing, I have an an over the top move. Obviously I have worked on many parts of my swing, I am now much more balanced and my OTP move is almost gone. My divots aren't pointing way left anymore etc. HOWEVER, I still have a problem with it. The reall issue is that it only really shows itself on long clubs, particularly the Driver and 3w. I just came from the range, and I hit 10 balls with a 5w, at leat half went dead straight and were about 225 carry (using rangefinder), the others had a small leak to the right, and lost 10-15 yards. Then I hit 3w, I hit 8 of them to the right, fading, andf none were farther than 225. The other two I hit dead straight, but they started about 10-15 degrees left, a dead pull. Then 10 with driver, same as the 3w but farther right on the fades.

What I can't get a "feel" for is what is the first move from the top? For me it seem I start with my hands, which in turn causes my shoulders to start first, from there, there is nothing you can do to keep from coming OTP. I just don't know what the first move should feel like!!

Another thing that may help diagnose, when I hit these long clubs, many times I find my self off balance, with my weight falling toward the tee after I swing through, ending up on my left toe falling forward a little.

I have no problems like this with 8i etc.

Is my swing with these longer clubs too low, not steep enough? What do you guys think

NOTE: I don't think I have ever hit a legit draw with a driver in my life. Meaning I have hit balls that draw, but they always start left. I can't for the life of me swing OUT and start it right of target and bring it back.

Feel like your swinging with your Gluts, Lats, Abs, & Shoulders, instead of your hands and arms.

I had what sounds like the identical problem that you are dealing with last year. What finally helped me is to really relax my arms more and allow some float loading from the top. I allowed the change of direction to load my swing feeling my wrists get co**ked by the movement and not forcefully doing it. By concentrating on that move and feeling the lag against my index finger all the way to impact I got past the problem. For me it died really hard and I got worse for about 2 weeks or so but once I really started feeling the swing it clicked and I haven't looked back. It looked like my club stopped moving for a split second but for me that was just the change of direction. Good luck

I look forward to replies here, I have been struggling with exactly this. My driver sessions sound a lot like what you describe---mostly tolerable fades, but a few dead pulls (or an occasional big slice) mixed in. I recently had a quick video session with a pro and we fixed (or at least made me aware of) a massively over-sized hip turn leading to my hands being way too far behind my body to start; I have been able to quickly fix that and get the feeling. I can't seem to get rid of the OTT/swing around problem... When I try to swing from the inside, something goes wrong and I tend to end up fat or something.

Search "Maintaining Your Flying Wedge" and "The biggest secret, SLIDE your hips".

Read those threads. Iacas gives some great information/instructions.

I personally have found more success in my swing by sliding my hips forward BEFORE the backswing ends rather than before the downswing begins.

Not to mention, beginners at this move who slide their hips forward at what feels like before the end of the backswing will many times find they are sliding them forward just as the downswing starts, later than they think they are.

That is actually the correct time to "fall in" and begin the hip slide and weight transfer. Right before the end of the backswing. Actually, the closer you can sychronize the end of the backswing and your hipslide, the better.

Best 9 holes: 35 (Trilogy at Redmond Ridge, 3163y, Par 35/70, 70.0/131)
Best 18: [b]77[b] (Palm Valley CC, 6545y, 71.4/126)
Notable career achievement: I have NEVER four-putt.

Like I said, it seems to work much better for me, trying to do it as the downswing starts just seems quite timing dependent.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I will for sure check out those other threads. Luckily this problem doesn't transfer to my scoring irons, like 6 and up...
