5 Iron or 5 Hybrid?

I have both, but like the 5 hybrid more. Where do you draw the line? How many hybrids should one carry? I have 1, 3 & 4 Cobra Bafflers and hit them very well. I also have a 5 that I use here and there. I'm 50/50 with my 5 iron and sometimes use the 5 hybrid. Should I scrap it for the 5 hybrid that I place and pull from my bag constantly???

I feel like an idiot on a Par 3 160+ using the 5 hybrid while everyone else lines up with irons...

If it scores better for you now, I say use it. Whatever makes the game better and more enjoyable is my motto.

Re: 5 Iron or 5 Hybrid?

They both have uses ...... if you choke down 1 inch on the 4H you about have a 5H, so why would you add another hybrid ?

Because if you choke down a little bit on the 5H you have the equivalent of a 5i? If the OP can do that more consistently than he hits the iron I think that's the right choice. And who cares what other people are hitting off the tee, just play your own game.

what he said.

Maybe in the future your ball-striking will get better and you can try irons off the tee.
I was never a fan of hybrids.

Re: 5 Iron or 5 Hybrid?

My brother plays up to a 7 hybrid depending on how he is hitting his irons. I say if it works for you, who cares what others think. If you can hit the 5h better that the 5i, go for it.

Re: 5 Iron or 5 Hybrid?

If you play better with the hybrid....then play with the hybrid.... I will say though that a 5i can be a VERY useful club out of your bag and can do things that a hybrid can never do. Low punch shots, 3/4 shots under limbs hooking or slicing around stuff. etc.....

Who says one should carry any? If hybrids are right for you, go for it. Trust me, good players don't really care what club you're using to hit the green. Hit a 165 yard 5-hybrid snug against the flag and they'll say "nice shot", same as if you'd used a 7 or 8-iron.
