The British Press can be ruthless. For example, they often refered to nick faldo as " Foldo" I think that Tiger has been well accepted by US crowds and I hope the same will be true in England. What do you think?

I think it will be a non-story, and unimportant. They will be focusing on the leaders.

If the people of St. Andrews are the same way they were in the 80's, Tiger should be pretty comfortable. I spent 4 days there playing golf, and the people were extremely welcoming and polite.

Were you in the papers a lot in the 1980s.

On the whole, the fans in the UK aren't that interested. The UK press is more aggressive to media figures, but less puritanical and holier than thou (Daily Mail excepted) than the US press. A lot of the cringeable Nike advertising doesn't get shown over here.

If Tiger plays well, he will get the respect he deserves. If he doesn't, he will be relegated to a bit part faster than he would in the US.

There is currently a gagging order on the UK press so they are not able to publish stories relating to his 'extra curricular' activities. For this reason they are being very careful about the stories that they do publish. They will be kind to him as he is not a British sports star!

These super injunctions are rather pointless with widespread internet availability. After the last such story during the height of the slappergate frenzy, it took no more than 5 minutes online to find a pdf copy of the injunction as filed in the UK courts, along with the details of the material in question.

The Irish press gave him a hard time after the J.P. McManus Invitational Pro-Am as they asked him about his affairs which didn't go down to well with Eldrick.

I can't believe he isn't staying in the UK to practice or is he that confident or arrogant that he doesn't need too .............

it's not either. i think he knows that back home in fl he can practice without getting hounded and heckled. he just needs to straighten out his swing. pretty sure he's demonstrated a few times that he knows how to play ye olde course.

My guess is he'll be treated quite politely on the course. While the British press pretty much lives off of tales of illicit high-society rumpy pumpy, my impression has always been that the public as a whole couldn't care less from any moralistic point of view. It's just another dimension of the entertainment that celebrities provide.

Stretch.
