Hi, I have been playing with the Titleist 804 OS irons for the past 8 months and am now ready to move on. My swing has improved significantly during this period i.e. I am much more consistant and am now able to 'shape' the ball more effectively.

I had been considering the Titelist 755 as the next logical step until a friend offered to sell me his practically new MP30s for a very reasonable price. I tried several of them at the range today and was very impressed. They are very pleasing to the eye and feel very precise. I hit 5 balls with the 7 iron, they flew dead straight and landed not more than 2-3 feet apart from one another. For me, this was quite an accomplishment. The longer irons also felt and perfomed well.

Questions: Are the MP30 a sufficient step up for an improving player i.e. from the 804OS? Which Titleist irons would they be comparable to? Are there any irons from either these or other manufacturers I should be looking at?

Thanks for any help.

See if you can borrow the set for a round.

I've played 804's (not OS) and they're not THAT much bigger than the MP-30's.

What are titleist 855's?

Sorry, I meant the 755...just edited the original post. Thanks.

I thought the MP30s were much less 'cavity' like. You wouldn't agree?

I would get the 755's. Love those!!!!

I just compared the MP and 804 heads. There is fairly significant difference in cavity and size.

Unfortunately, there is quite a price difference between the two.

Would you consider the 755s and the MP30 similar clubs?

Tommy,

I am no club expert - but. . .

I love the MP30's. They are smaller than your Titleists and are very workable but still have some forgiveness. Their smaller sweet spot will challenge you. I think they make a good transition from what you have to say a club you might use if you are 5 or lower. I think hitting the sweetspot consistantly is the challenge as you move into ultra workable "players" clubs. A club that has too much game improvement design, does not train you to hit the center of the face - these will. Once you do that very regularly, you need less forgiveness and can move on to the Mizuno MP32, or MP67 or one of Titleists players clubs.

Bottom line is you have these in front of you for cheap! They are awesome!

Best of Luck!

JP, that's very helpful. Thanks.

As you explained, I'm hoping to improve my ball striking by using clubs that are less forgiving, provide feedback, but are still playable i.e. at my level. Sounds like the MP30 will do the trick.

Thanks again.

My first set of irons were Titleist 981's than switched to my now irons MP-30's, I do not regret switching from titleist irons to mizuno would not move to anything but Mizuno for irons. Although, I am a Titleist driver/woods fan.
