It seems that I have found a plethora of ways to make my once a round 7 or 8.
- 3 chips or 2 chips and a 3 putt
- Poor drive compounded by the attempted "hero" shot
- "playing it safe"

How about those of you that still have the blow up hole...how do you manage to do it? haha

poor drive followed by trying to make up for it with a low iron, than still missing the green on the next shot, chip leaving me 25 ft, and a 3 putt.

Mine usually happen when I dont focus while chipping. When my mind wanders I usually end up hitting a fat 4' chip. That will make for a hard hole.

I 4 putted today from 8 feet.
I went from a birdie chance to a double bogey lol.

I hit a shot OB, then hit a bad 2nd drive and thought I saw a "gap" in the trees. After that next shot I picked up my ball.

and don't get me started about "playing safe" I hit a 3i off the tee and sliced it into the trees.

All that happened during 1 round today!

It almost always starts with a bad drive. Then it's followed by a bad iron, sometimes due in part to the lie but usually just because it's a bad swing. It seems that bad drives and bad irons go together for me, probably because it's a combination of being frustrated and feeling like I have to make up for lost distance.

I've had relatively few blow-up holes that came from bad chipping or putting for a while now. It's kind of nice to not be scared to pull out the wedges.

Given that I play on a par 3 course and my standards are quite low at this point, I can say my blow-up hole consists of OBs into deep woods on the left of the 11th hole. :P I managed to send two in there on one hole...

90% of mine is from the tee box with the drive. o.b.(sometimes twice of tee box). I just bought a new driver (higher loft R flex shaft) which i hope will help with this and will be putting it to the test tomorrow.

Today my blow up hole was a 7 on a Par 4. I hooked my drive into the lake, then 3 off the tee ended up nice, but then I hit my approach into a green side bunker. Chipped up to about 15 ft on a serious down slope....now putting 6....missed the down hill-er then back up 2 ft for a 7.....its too bad I par'd the next 7 holes and took a double on the 9th for a +5 front.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I played 36 holes at Colonial Heritage today off the tips. Here's a picture of the 5th hole:

http://colonialheritageclub.com/kemp...219/hole05.jpg

The first 18 (never seen the course before), I decide to play ultra-safe and hit a 2-iron - there's about a 200 yard carry over the hazard to the left fairway - duck hooked it into the shit. Since the ball didn't cross over anything but the white tees, I went ahead and re-teed - duck-hooked another one in the shit. Go back to the cart, get a third ball, hit driver right to the edge of the right hazard. Pull the 3-wood out going for the green, push it in the trees right of the green. Blade a wedge over the green into a lateral hazard. Drop, chip onto the green, miss a 5 ft putt for an 11.

Having never played the course before, I didn't know there was a drop area on the ladies tee. Had I known that, I probably wouldn't have made worse than bogey.

Then the next 18, I hit 4-wood, 4-iron, gap wedge to 10 ft and birdied it.

My blowup hole starts with a bad drive almost always, I can think of only one time in recent memory where a strong drive led to a double bogey on a par 5.

Lets see the last 8 I carded was with my 2 sons yesterday, so me brain was on coach duty. Drive went into the water 250 to the left. dropped and then hit into the water again trying to get on in 3 from 190 down hill (hit fat)

Generally, any double pars i card or quads involve 1 or more penalty strokes.
Ill score at least 1 quad a round and 2 triples. The rest is bogey or better.

It's usually always my driver that does me in.

A nice duck-hook into the trees, a lost ball, a dead squirrel, re-tee, a short iron shot, chip on, and a 3 putt later and you've got a 7.

Mine could definitely be a combination of many things but it generally begins with bad play off the tee. I had 2 7s today - the first was on a short par 4 with a river crossing 2/3 of the way. I usually like to hit a nice easy 9 iron off the tee to the 150 stick and then an 8 or a 9 iron to the green. I hit my tee shot a little fat and so it went short and slightly right so I was a bit behind a tree without a clean shot at the green. I should have just hit to the left of the green and chipped on but I thought "I'm hitting well today, I should try a fade around the tree..." yeah well after hitting the tree into some heavy rough, punching out from there hitting onto the green a mile from the hole and 3 putting it was a 7. The second came when I hit my tee shot OB, then hooked my 3rd shot, had to punch out from behind a tree, flew the green, chipped on and 1 putt for 7. So, as you can see, it's a combination of things, but it all starts with bad play off the tee.
