So she has been to the range a few times and can hit the ball ok once in a while. My dad, my brother in law, and I are gunna go for a round. My wife pipes up and says "I'd like to go too". I said "ok you were hitting the ball ok on the range come along for your first round". We went over some of the etiquette and off we went.
On the first green we all walk up and mark our balls and start to line up putts. My wife looks over and spots a loonie(Canadian $1 coin) in which my brother in law had marked his ball. Not realizing it was his marker she walks over to it and says "Oh look a loonie" bends over and picks it up and puts in her pocket (thinking it was her lucky day). Well the 3 of us burst out laughing and she stood there and looked at us like we had 3 heads with purple hair. We filled her in and she turned a little red and gave my brother in law his dollar back and said sorry. Its been the story I enjoyed telling anytime golf is the subject been talked about.

Feel free to share any funny or odd golf stories you might have.

I'm not married, but I have taken a few girls to the driving range. I need someone who I can hit the ball farther than. LOL. I think it depends on the lady, myself, and whether I could stand them for 18 holes.

A nice dinner is a completely different situation.

I went golfing once with my wife, several years ago, and we just argued the whole time. We're very competitive people and, especially at the time, we're very bad at golf, so it was not a good idea.

If I took my girlfriend golfing, I think I would become single. She can barely listen to golf, let alone play it.

My gf can't (couldn't) stand watching golf and couldn't imagine ever playing it. We took some lessons together this summer and now she loves it (not as much as I do, but still). I'm not saying your gf will like it if she tried it, but you'd be surprised how being able to enjoy something together gets a person to like something they never thought possible. I never liked cooking, but we started doing it together and now I actually enjoy it (even when she's not around).

Cheers,

I think if they're new and they can barely hit the ball you gotta treat the outing as a playing lesson basically and dont just yell at advice but basically setup every shot for them

I always get my wife involved in most of my hobbies if I can. Gives her perspective and understanding when I want something or mention something about it.

For the first 12 years of my marriage my wife wouldn't do more than play putt, putt and even then she'd get mad at me (I always beat her by 1 on purpose). Apparently it had to do with some date to the driving range she had in high school with a golfer. I finally brought her around and we have fun with it. I don't teach her anything, but rather ask her what she learned from her instructors and books and then can relate that back to her if she gets confused and asks me. Got her some books especially for womens golf. Key is letting her ask for help and calming her down when she gets frustrated, if you go about teaching her it's all of a sudden your fault when she screws up.

Guess the most humerous thing to me is after our first 2 rounds she'd yet to be in a bunker. She sees that's like the one natural part of my game is getting them out, and she rally wants to try it, so I give her the basics and toss a ball in. Walk her through it and perfect sand splash back out first try. Now all of a sudden she's lucky to keep her ball out of them and forgets just about everything on getting out. She'll have a wide open fairway and the only way in sand is to shank it and that's when she shanks it. I just chuckle to myself with a "be careful what you wish for" feeling. Now she's on the pro about how they need to add a practice bunker.

Golf is my escape. I don't scrapbook or make hair bows and my wife doesn't golf.

Can't wait to take my son out. He just turned two. Is that too early to start?

Duuude, I hear ya! It's my escape too! I live for it - my outting almost every Sunday. I got my little girl a starter club and she's only 20 months...got it a few months ago. She just drags it around, can't really swing it yet. I posted a pic of it on another thread...maybe the Big Break thread.

Anyway, GO VOLS! Alum here!

My gf couldn't stand golf at the beginning, but once she realized that coming to the course with me would be the only way to spend time with me, she started getting hooked. And last week she shot her personal best, 87 for 18 holes... And that was with 25 year old, lynx blades.

I'm trying to get my wife to play golf. She was a great athlete in high school and hasn't had the opportunity to play any competitive sports in years. She is now a veterinarian and is pretty busy but was showing some interest in coming with me to the range and has come a few times. She's right handed but used to swing a bat left handed in high school but we only have right handed clubs so she plays as a righty. She makes pretty good contact as is going to take a few lessons in a couple weeks. I don't think she'll ever want to play as often as I do so every now and then will be fun plus I think it opens up a whole lot of vacation opportunities...

My girlfriend's shoulder was injured in Softball; so she can't really swing without it hurting. Most of the courses around me doesn't mind if she walks/rides with me so she comes along and we chat and I get my own little cheering section. Really turns on the pressure to play well though :P

    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
