How many people use only there pitching wedge from a 100 yards in and chipping around the green,or has everone gone with all the wedges.I have tried the wedge route and jst didn't do as good, when I started playing years ago there was not all the wedges of today so I just learned the feel part of the game

I treat my PW as a 10I and pretty much only use it for full swings. I use a 52 degree wedge for most chipping.

In the bag:

T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW

I have two Cleveland Wedges - 56 and 60, but I can't hit them well on full shots....kind of sucks, I know. I use my PING G10 Gap Wedge for a lot of approaches or the PING PW. Not as much spin or check as the Clevelands, but I can hit the PING so much more accurately.

Just got a 60 vokey and it is all I use now for 60 on in as well as most pitching. I still use other clubs for special situations. As for 100 yds in I am at a dilemma since I bought my new clubs. I hit my gripped down PW more than 100 yds and my SW 110+ full swing and gripped down 85 ish so I am stuck at that yardage. I do have the UW but I don't carry it (that would be 15 clubs). I don't want to give up any other club so I have to learn to hit a controlled 100 yd shot with what I have.

110 - PW
90 - 52º
<90 - Depends on desired trajectory

For the short game I use anything from 7i to 58º, depending on how much green I got to work with, lie etc. I use the lowest club I can always, getting it as fast as possible on the ground and rolling. Watching The Open now shows how the pros prefer rolling the ball on the green, as opposed to flicking it high all the time. You see putts from 60 yards out there.

I have a 50, 54, 58, & 64. I usually only carry two during any given round. It all depends on the course and how I'm playing. Lately however I have been using my PW for more and more pitch and chip shots. It has helped my consistency, even when using the other wedges in my bag. As others have said though 7i, 8i etc can be used effectively as well if you practice, something I don't do enough of.

Lately i've gotten a bit creative.

From 100 yards in i could be hitting anything from a 5i to a SW depending on the circumstances.

I use my LW for most greenside chipping.
PW doesn't stop fast enough

If I'm 90-100 yards from the green I use the pitching wedge. Anything under that I use either a 54 or a 60 degree wedge, depending on how much green is between me and the pin.

I'm quite long for my age and usually hit PW from 110-120 if I'm hitting the ball well. 52* goes 95 56* 85 and 60* goes about 70. But I use my 60 for most pitches and my 56 for chips and rarely use my 52 for any greenside shots. But it depends on your skill level and the fact if you need to carry a bunker with a pin tucked near the trap or if you need spin or check.

Before having so many high-lofted wedges became common, I still didnt use my PW for short game shots. I used my 56*.
