"Low line drive" Drives

For some reason which I'm sure can be explained by some of you guys, all of my drives are low line drive smashes(when I actually hit it well). Assuming I make good contact, my drives are usually in the 220-230 range. The problem(is it?) is that they are all carrying around 175 yards then bouncing and rolling a ton. I can't for the life of me hit a higher trajectory drive.

My main question is, is this really a bad thing? I'm guessing it's not optimal or else you'd see it being done by tour players. I'm a high handicap golfer so right now it's not a problem for me at all on the course.

It's not terrible if you know it's goiing to happen every time.

It could be coming from a number of factors or any combination thereof: Your swing (less wrist action), ball position in stance (back of stance instead of front), or equipment (clubhead loft & shaft combination). If you want to fix it, you'll have to play with the variables and see what works.

Tour Guys don't hit their Drives as high as you think. The Camera Angle just makes it look that way.

If your Drives are 15-20' at the top of the arc you're doing fine as long as you don't have to hit over anything. Usually moving the ball towards the lead foot a little more will give you some more height....

Experiencing the same thing right now. With the roll I'm hitting the same distance as usual, if not further. I'm making good contact and it's going dead straight so I'm not complaining. Strange though, I'm typically a high ball hitter. Ball probably doesn't get more than 15-20 feet off the ground. This is only with my driver though.

I'm not unhappy with it at all since the results are good and fairly consistent for someone of my handicap. Watching the Open Championship last week and looking at that nifty ball tracking graphic they display on players drives, it seemed like the pros were hitting moon shots. I would say more often than not the shots do travel around 15-20 feet off the ground with the occassional 10 footer once every handful of drives. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, I noticed their ball flights as well. And the couple pro tourneys I've seen in person they hit their drivers fairly high. High launch - low spin seems to be the buzz. Although that ball tracker can be a bit deceiving I think, it looks like the ball leaves the club and goes straight up in the air, which it surely doesn't otherwise they wouldn't be getting the type of distances they get.

They were doing the ball tracker on the 17th hole where you have to hit over that little building - I'd probably just barely clear that right now, maybe bounce it off the roof. LOL

If the fairways are flat or downhill it may not be a bad thing but if they are inclined it could be a problem

THey're not hitting high ballooning balls though, which a lot of people consider better than a low flying bullet.
It depends i guess

I got the opposite going on. I hit my drives too high. I was thinking of making a post asking how to take some arc off.

What are your specs on your driver? Maybe not something wrong with your swing, especially if low ball flight is only with your driver.

You may want to check that your shaft flex is a match for swing speed. May be a little on the stiff side?

and just to throw another little wrench in there...where are you making contact on the face? Low and heel will give you much lower ball flight than center face or high on the face, of course. I can tell what happened when I hit a low bullet because I can feel the contact on the bottom of the face or on the heel of it.

Still hard for me to fathom that I can't hit the center of a gigantic club when the ball is sitting still but I could always hit the sweet spot of a bat when I wasn't looking at it and the ball was moving, lol

My driver is a TaylorMade R580XD regular flex shaft 10.5*. My swing speed isn't very fast but it isn't really slow either. That being said, I've never tested my swing speed.

Paradox, I am a former baseball player as well so I know that feeling.

Where do you tee it up in your stance? Front or middle.. Also how high do you tee it up? I crush the ball really high, (almost too high I'm thinking about teeing it up a little bit lower) but you're supposed catch the ball on the upswing with a driver so you might be hitting it too "early".

I tee it up fairly high actually. I play the ball to the front of my stance when hitting driver. There are times that I am getting great height and others where the ball travels about 10 feet off the ground. I've been playing courses lately where I've needed height on my drives and I'm struggling with it.

Where is your center of gravity at in your swing? are you moving away from the golf ball ? When you move your COG too close to the golf ball that causes the pop up shot...

This is a great video, do this.
