Titleist 909 D2 Driver

Ok, I have a question for all the golf equipment gurus!

I have decide this is the driver I want due to how it feels when I hit it, but here is my question!

I took out 3 Demos to the course:

9.5* Diamana 65gram stiff
9.5* Voodoo by Tileist
909D3 9.5* Diamana 65gram stiff

I absolutely love the D2 with the Diamana 65gram stiff, but it goes just a tad to high. Launch angle was right about 11.7-12.1*

I would like to lower it about 1-1.5*, but how should I do it? Go with an 8.5* rather then the 9.5*..... if so would that make me loose forgiveness? Or should I look at getting a different shaft?

Any Help is greatly appreciated,

that shaft is higher launching (especially the made for)
personally i think the launch angles you were achieving are optimal
if you want lower, get the voodoo
i couldnt get my launch angles above 9.0 w it, not matter what

8.5's r tough to hit IMO, harder to keep consistent

there are lots of gently used 909's out there w different shafts
if u like Diamana, try to find one w a Whiteboard in it - still the smoothness of Diamana, but lower launching/spinning shaft
also consider buying it one flex stiffer than you need - i bought a X that cpm'd out at 256 (when it should be around 270-ish)

The diamana shafts that are "made for titleist" are crap. If you like the D2, and want to get one of the stock shafts. Go voodoo, the made for titleist voodoo plays fairly close to the real voodoo. If you want to lower the launch even more with the 8.5, get a lower launching shaft. Also if you want forgiveness, stick with the D2. If you get the right shaft combination with the D2, it can be a real bomber.

Thanks for the reply, the problem with the voodoo compared with the Diamana is that it was 10-15 yard shorter in distance. That is why I am almost ruling out the VooDoo!

I have a 909 f2 3wood with the Diamana X-stiff! Do you think if I went with X-stiff it would lower it a little?

in theory yes
i use an x stiff shaft because i hit the ball a mile in the air
i dont quite need an X (ss of 100-103) but it helps keep the flight and spin down
i dont hit it as far as i probably could w a Stiff, but i dont balloon it anymore

now to contradict my own post, i am considering going back to Stiff to get some distance back

You have no idea, sorry.....
That Diamana shaft is not the "real" shaft, but it is still a very good golf shaft for most golfers, it's still very stable and plays great. It's not "crap"

My mate just got a D3 and got the diamana, he is a +4 HC and he loves the shaft.

i felt the exact opposite. for me the ball would not go high at all. or maybe something's wrong with the swing. =D

I have the 9.5* Diamana 65gram stiff and love it, perfect weight and feel. I do launch a little high sometimes but its more on me than the club. Personally I prefer it to the voodoo

Hey, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. But to me, the made for diamana shafts have a high torque which causes too much spin and a very high launch for me. Yeah titleist made these "made for" shafts to fit most people but I just wanted to let the OP know that he should try other shafts with the D2 because with the right shaft that thing is a bomber.

Also onebigtwister, if you get a heavier shaft that can bring the launch down somewhat.

I use a D2, as well. I hate both stock shaft options from titleist right now, so I pulled the UST avixvore black from my D3. It performs very closely to the trusty Titleist 905R.

You didn't really phrase it that way though. You said "the diamana shafts that are 'made for Titleist' are crap". If you had said that the made for shafts didn't work for you, that would have been different. Just because they don't work for everybody certainly doesn't make them crap. I agree with CrazyXGolfer that as far as stock shaft offerings go the Made for Titleist Blueboards are pretty good.

My mistake but what I meant was that they were crap for me. The best made for diamana shaft was the original nike SQ, but the titleist made for diamanas doesn't play like the real blueboards. While the made for voodoo plays fairly close to the real voodoo SV.

Something else to help the OP, here's a link below to the shafts that titleist offers. If you look at the Real Blueboard and the made for diamana blueboard, the trajectory and flex points are very different. That's why I think you should try to get the real blueboard but if you don't want to pay for the up-charge than the made for voodoo will help you out with the launch.
