Center shafted putter vs. heel shafted?

Has anyone switched from a heel shafted blade putter to a center shafted blade putter? If so, anyone improvement or worsening of putting? I won an Odyssey White Tour #2 putter, same length as I have been using. In my mind, I think this putter would improve my putting since it senter the weight and less chance of the toe weight taking it offline in the backswing. Dunno. Just a thought.

Yes, I switched from a Ping PAL-2 BeCU to a Ping 1/2 Craz-e

After borrowing someone's center-shafted and doing well with it, I decided to make a stitch.

The 1/2 Craz-e however gives more consistent distance across the face than the PAL-2 which penalizes off-center hits more. Which is important for a "hole-looker" such as myself, who relies on making good contact without watching the ball so much. :0

Better putter for me. Putting average was going down till I started to make more greens -- the outer parts of greens, rather than fringes and collars.

However, now my first putt distance is by default a longer distance, because before I was chipping in from the fringe or nearby rough, to a closer first putt.

Nope, i started off on a Ping B60, with the heal shaft putter. I like them a alot because it matches my putting style. I switched to an White Ice putter and really like it alot, but its nearly the same design as my Ping putter, with a little less back end and a bit wider.

I guess that center-shafted putters are more beneficial to SBST style of putting, in addition the one I tested were all face-balanced.

With putting so much of it is mental and personal preference. If 99 people responded to this thread and told you yes it would be better, you would probably go putt better.

The type of stroke would come into play as well as your personal nuances or imperpections that take place during your putting stroke.

I haven't tried out any center-shafted putters just yet. I've only had the chance to play with heel-shafted ones, and they work for me decently enough.

Anyway, yeah, I went to the center shafted putter listed in my sig after several frustrating weeks of trying to align the heel shafted putter that came with my first set of clubs. For some reason heel shafted putters seem to fool my eye as I look down at the bottom bend. I was never able to compensate for that optical illusion. Once I switched (and changed to a left-hand-low grip), I was immediately a better putter.

I say you should just take your new trophy out for a day or two and see what you think. You can always switch back.

And btw - congrats on winning whatever you won!

Man I don't even know what kind I have. My putter is a 15-20 year old cheapo putter.

Hank, you don't know if your putter's shaft goes into the heel or the center of the face by looking at it?

I switched to a center-shafted putter and found it much easier to find the sweet spot = better putting.
