Putter recommendations?

wondering if anyone could help me find a suitable putter. i have more problems with speed than i do with hitting the right line. i switch back and forth between an odyssey two ball and odyssey rossie. i have trouble putting with the two ball from long range...to me, it feels heavy, and again, at least to me, doesn't provide enough feel for distance. the rossie is better, but wondering if there is anything better out there for me.

would i be better suited with a lighter putter? i'll admit that i lack touch with this, so probably the harder i have to hit a putt to get it moving, the better off i'll be (i putted with a scotty cameron newport before - didn't like it because the ball seemed to "jump" off the face).

what do you all think? i know putters are particularly attuned to personal preference, but if anyone could recommend a few for me to try, that would be helpful.

Choosing a putter is tough and can take a while before you find the right one for you - I searched for years before I found one I liked a lot - Never Comprimise Milled Series #7 - it's great for all distances and provides tremendous feel, lines up square 10 feet in and inspires confidence that I'm going to make everything inside 10 feet. It was not cheap $200+ but it was well worth it.

I've tried so many putters that it is comical - Cameron Red X, Cleveland Classic #5 (good putter), White Hot #5, Carbite, Ping Zing and ZSB (another good putter), the list goes on. Dave Pelz has a good method of testing putters although his recommendation on what putter someone should choose (face balanced) couldn't be further from the putter I ended up with and have liked the best. For me distance control was the #1 criteria, #2 was alignment and comfort from 10 feet in.

Be prepared to get a myriad of responses since IMO, a putter is the most individualistic choice in a set.

The above post hit it on the head. I've been trying new putters for the last three months (hit about 20 different brands and styles) and went with a Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2. I would guess that you are use to having a putter with an insert (both your current putters are from Odyssey) so trying a putter w/o one is going to be a bit of change. Also, I felt the two-ball was too light (as opposed to you feeling it being heavy - just goes to show how individual putters can be!) The Yes! series of putters are very nice (almost went with a Callie).

Just as important, get fitted for the proper length, lie angle and loft. Good luck in your search!

I agree with all. Try a non-insert putter and see how you like that. I had a couple Oddyseys and never felt entirely comfortable with the insert. It was probably in my head, but I felt like I was getting inconsistent distances (not that I haven't had bouts of this with non-insert putters). As you can see from my sig, I do like the Yes! putters as well (the Callie is my second), but try them all and see what works for you.

But first, have a pro look at your putting stroke. I had a pro point out one big flaw in my stroke this summer that I didn't even realize I had. After a couple weeks of work my putting speed became much better, and I now have a lot more confidence on the green.

      Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.

      I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
