Comprehensive Camera for Filming your Golf Swing Thread

Thread Starter

So Im getting ready to buy a high speed camera pretty soon to film my swing. Just sold my canon camera because it only filmed in 30fps.

My question is which one do you guys recommend I get? My budget is inbetween 300-400. I mean is Casio the only ones out there that can video at a high fps for seeing every part of the swing in this price range? Ive always liked nikon but dont know if their cameras have the same high speed capabilities as casio. Can anyone with experience in this area help me out with a choice. sony? casio? nikon?

Re: Camera for golf Swing

Casio is pretty much the biggest brand in this market at the moment. You can find some examples in this article: http://thesandtrap.com/playing_tips/filming_your_swing

yea thats what it looks like. So it looks like the Casio's FH25 shoots the same fps as the casio FC150. CasioF150 is about 100 cheaper though. Is it worth it to get the FH25 over it?

Re: Camera for golf Swing

Casio FH-25.

The FC150's shutter speed only goes to 1/1000. You'll still get a blurry clubhead on the downswing. On the plus side, the smaller camera could mean you're more likely to take it with you (i.e. it slips into a golf bag more easily).

Good camcorder to record golf swings with (hd, high speed)

So I love analyzing my golf swing..and my current video camera is from 2004. I am looking to upgrade, but want to make sure what I go with will be not just great for family vacations, but for viewing my golf swing.

I just used a buddies camera which is better then mine, but still lacked the HD quality and fast frames per second.

What would be a good option out there that will shoot HD, but also have a fast FPS so I can view my swings in slow motion, yet super smooth and clear. Not saying it has to be the Swing Vision camera CBS uses :), but something nicer then seeing a blurred shaft would be nice.

Thanks

If you want a really good quality camera/video recorder and are willing to spend some $

Bread and butter option that films at 60fps

Re: Good camcorder to record golf swings with (hd, high speed)

I found an AIPTEK A-HD-DV that does 720p HD at 60 FPS., and 1080p at 30 fps. I got it on EBay for $75. Works great. Good to have a tripod, as it doesn't have anti-shake technology.

You can't get high FPS and HD. Not for $300 like you can use to get 240 FPS in the Casio FH-25.

thanks guys.

So is 60fps really fast enough to capture is very smoothly, or is there still some blur involved?

So basically, one should have a separate camera for capturing high speed and/or hd (is hd even necessary if high speed is the goal)....and a separate nice HD camera for family events and overall life?

did you mean the EX-FH25. Seems like its more of a regular digital camera versus camcorder

do those Flip HD cameras do any good for slow motion video?

Can some of you post a video clip of your golf swing in slow motion using your respective devices?

Re: Good camcorder to record golf swings with (hd, high speed)

I am looking at the Kodak Playsport HD....is that a good camera?

Re: Good camcorder to record golf swings with (hd, high speed)

all the cameras mentioned are playing 60 fps at the most besides the casio fh25. You are going to miss some stuff with it. Your best option will be the casio fh25 which will record 240 fps in a decent size. They can do some cool stuff.

Re: Good camcorder to record golf swings with (hd, high speed)

So would this be considered the "same" camera Casio being mentioned?

http://www.casio.com/products/Camera...Speed/EX-FH25/

Says it can record up to 1000 fps, with variable speeds of 120, 240, etc...

sounds like it only does 60fps. Probably good overall camera, but not sure it will get you the details in slow motion that you want.

yea thats it. Read that swing camera article posted above. it will help you more. It says it can record 1,000 fps but at a screen size of 224x64 which is too small, like this size . A good size screen size is the 448x336 at 240fps

Re: Good camcorder to record golf swings with (hd, high speed)

Here are some golf swing videos with that camera

30FPS

120FPS

240 FPS

420 FPS

Imagine with good lighting how smooth it looks. I am sold.
