Ayo. I am going to be getting my golf clubs re-gripped in a few days and I'm wondering if I should get them cut to fit me. At a towering 5'5" at 16-years-old, (Hahaha, good one Adam) it's belief that I've still got a couple inches to go, but I have always felt like my standard clubs have been too long for me. I have shot good scores with these clubs, but they've always felt slightly uncomfortable due to their length.

What do y'all think? Is it worth while to get them all cut to my size?

I would definitely get them sized correctly. The funny thing is, I always had the exact opposite problem. I was about your size when I was your age and my standard length clubs felt too short to me. I'm now 21 and full grown at 5'9" and my standard length clubs now feel just about perfect.

On the other hand, if you've been striking the ball well with them, a bit of change in the club could call for a drastic change in your swing and you don't want that if you're hitting it well.

My parents seem very reluctant to the idea of cutting them down citing their hopes that I'm going to end up taller than 5'5", but I think the risk is worth the reward...

If you cut them down and then grow a couple more inches, can't you just get another inch added to the clubs? Not everyone who gets fitted for clubs has to have them cut.

That's my logic. Hahahaha.

If you cut off more than a half inch, you'll notice increased stiffness of the shaft. Also, shorter shafts will lessen the swingweight.

I would suggest talking to a clubsmith that really know what he (or she) is doing. Get a static fitting (shaft length and lie angle) before anyone trims shafts.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I buy and resell a lot of clubs. The best buy I have found is someone who has shortened shafts and now dislikes the clubs because of lose of swing weight and increases stiffness of the shaft. I would suggest seeing a club builder with reputation and get fit for the flex and lie which will fit you and create the best scenario for you. Just wacking off an inch or so is not a good idea

Took them in today to Chris Cote's Golf Shop in Portland, CT. He did a quick test with 10 balls hit and determined it would be best for my game to cut 3/4 of an inch off my clubs, as well as adjust the lie of the club. Picking them up later in the week, and I hope everything goes well!

Also traded in my Hybrid-3 for a 5-wood... Successful day!

    • This is pretty much how I look at it.  I understand there are times when the piece of mind has value. I think over the long haul I'm money ahead by never buying the extended warrantee. Hell, What do I know? I went to Ch!cago PubIic SchooIs.

    • On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
