Tough call between two shots-both at the same course (Links at Ivy Ridge in Akron, NY). Last year I had a shot where I was 245 out after a pulled drive on a par 5. I was in the rough, and there was a narrow opening into the green with water right/front wrapping around to the back of the green. For some reason I decided to go for it, and hit my Cobra Baffler DWS 16* as pure and strait as if it were an 8 iron. Landed 3-4 feet from the cup and I made the eagle putt. Earlier this year I was playing the same course and put my drive into a fairway bunker on a par 4. This green had traps in front left and right and water left. Again, instead of blasting into the fairway I decided to go for it. Not sure why cause my lie wasn't great and I was a decent bit below the lip of the bunker. My ball was on the upslope in the bunker, and I remember taking a 6 iron instead of a 7. I was around 160 from the center of the green and the pin was back left, so if I overshot I'd easily land/roll into the water. I took a firm 3/4 swing and clipped the ball cleanly, landed slightly left of center and rolled to about 18-20 feet from the flag, and had a nice 2 putt for a fantastic-feeling par. One of the guys I was paired up with that day said it was the best shot he'd ever seen so I feel obligated to include it.

Nothing jumps out at me too much except for this one. Tilden Park golf course in Berkeley, hole #7 is a 221 yd par 3, slightly downhill. My tee shot goes left of the green, almost into a creek and ends up right next to the trunk of a redwood tree. My only option was to flip over a club and hit it lefty, however there was also a bunker between me and the green with the only option really to try and run it through the sand and hope it somehow pops out. I hood a backwards 6 iron and hit it straight down into the ground, run it through the bunker, hits the lip, pops up onto the green and then can the putt from about 20 ft for a par. Meanwhile our oppenent 3 putted, missing a 5 footer to tie. Losing that hole never even crossed his mind after our tee shots. That one felt gooooooood.

It's a 3-way tie.

Par 4 hole 12 at my home course. I hit a great drive down the fairway and have about 50 yards left to the green. I was scared of that shot because I was shanking those all day, and I never shank anything. Pulled out the pitching wedge that I stuck in my bag earlier that morning for the heck of it, and hit a half swing. Had a 2 yard draw on it, WITH A PITCHING WEDGE. Landed straight in the hole. No bounce no nothing. That was my first eagle ever, and on a par 4.

Playing in a summer tournament at a golf course that wasn't that hard, but I played horrible. 2nd hole, and I hit my 2nd shot into the bunker. I have about a 40 yard bunker shot, so I decide to take my gap wedge and hit that for some more distance. I had no green to work with. I just hit and prayed. Came out perfect, bounced once right before the hole, and in for a birdie.

Par 4 hole 10. About 145 yards out. I have to hit it under the tree I'm under and draw it up and over another tree in front of me. Perfect little 8 iron and stick it to 10 feet. Made the birdie.

for me its hard to not label my hole in one on #16 at Riviera as the best shot ive ever hit. I striped a 7 iron that landed a foot past the hole and bounced backward into it. ive hit many 7 irons like that but this one went in the hole.. best shot ive ever hit.

A punch fade 4 iron from about 180 yards. It was from the bunker had to fade it around the trees while keeping the shot beneath the branches. Rolled onto the green about 25 feet from the pin. Two putted for birdie.

Most of my good shots for some reason are punch fade 4 iron used to recover from an errant tee shot. Real good confidence with it.

Just so happens that it happened this week. Par 3 third... 171 yards... into a little breeze... 5 iron hits about three feet in front of the hole and drops for my very first eagle/hole-in-one.

It's a two way tie:

The first was two years ago in a high school match. I was playing really well but had hit my approach shot way long and left, into the next fairway and behind a pine tree. I had a decent lie in the rough but had to go up and over the tree directly in front of me and get the ball to stop on the back tier. I hit a dead prefect flop shot and the ball landed (and stuck) a foot from the hole. I made par to tie the hole.

The secind was earlier this week at Cedars Golf Course, a par 3 course on Long Island. On the 2nd hole I went way long into some trees, and my attempt to hit one low under some branches left me way left, in some pine straw and behind a tree. My dad asked if I wanted to chip under the tree with my hybrid, but I said "nah, I'll just hit it over." I opened the blade a ton and slid the club perfectly through the straw and got it to land to 3 feet. This tree was much taller the the other one, and what really made it great was the nonchalant way I approached the shot and just executed it perfectly.

Just to set the scene a little here.

I was on the 9th hole par 4 at a local course, and I was in the mulch of a 45-foot tree, about 180 yards away from the hole, with a large tree, about 50 yards away, blocking my site of the hole. Now I'm talking heavy, heavy rough, with no grass under the ball, just mulch. So I take out my 4H and blindly shoot. I was so shocked to see my ball mere feet from the hole.

Today, 381yd par 4 dogleg left. Hit driver over the trees along the left. The ball came down on the cart path and went back up and into the FW 64 yards from the green. That would be a bit over 300 yards for my longest hit ever.

Mine was a bout a week ago on a 360 yd par 4 with a big dogleg left. My tee shot was right into the bend of the dogleg down the left center of the fairway. I had a few trees between me and the green blocking my view. I hit a 9i right over the trees and to about 2ft right of the hole. Had an easy putt for birdie.

No. 8 at Camp Pendleton Golf Club in 1977. Par 3, 205 yds. long. Was playing in a best-ball foursome.
Took my MacGregor MT 2-iron, and hit a draw back into a left-to-right cross wind. The ball hit, took one hop, and stopped two feet from the cup. I sank it for a birdie.

Because No. 8 was a stroke hole for me, we carded a net hole-in-one.

Close second was at Eagle Green G.C. in Denton, Texas (now a bunch of apartments). No. 9, an uphill 495 yd. par 5. Pushed my drive into the next fairway, had to take an unplayable lie. Hit a 5W over trees to just short of fairway bunkers 60 yds. out. Then, I sink a wedge from the fairway for a birdie - even though I had a penalty stroke.

My best shot?

Easy one. I aced the 16th hole at my home course. In a match. Up 2 with 3 to go, so I sealed it with the Ace.

It was the semi-finals for the mens club matchplay championship too, so considering the pressure and situation, I can't forget it.

9 iron from about 140 or so.

My greatest shot was during my first year of playing golf and it was total luck that I made it happen. It was a tree lined 482 yard par 5 that had a severe choke point in the trees with a creek about 310 yards out and a sharp dog leg to the right after the choke point. The WORST place you want to hit your tee shot is in the right rough or you wont have any choice but to slice it around the trees to end up in a decent spot. Well thats exactly what I did! I sliced my drive a few yards into the right rough out to 260 yards. So I had 220 yards to the green which I knew there was noway I could reach. I still took out my 3 hybrid, turned the club face wide open and sliced it through the choke point and around the dog leg, I had no idea exactly where it ended up. Well it just happened to land dead center of the fairway and only 30 yards from the green so all I had to do was pitch it close to the hole for a chance at birdie. The 30 yard pitch with my 56 degree wedge landed 5ft from the hole and I made my first ever birdie.

I proceeded to triple boggy the next 3 holes after that .

I love that hole! Go left and possibly lose it down into the creek. Flare right and hit the cart path and roll down down down. Your up and down was incredible (wish I saw it).
