So me and my buddy are on the 12 hole which is a par 5 518yrds to the green. I got up first and made some very good contact with the ball right down the center of the fairway, then my buddy gets up and kind of bloops its 90-100 yards. Well we pull up to his ball and he makes some decent contact and sends the ball to where we thought my ball went (we were on the bottom of a slight hill so we couldn’t see the green or the rest of the fairway yet). We load up and head to the first ball we see which we thought was mine, nope it was his! About 380yrds up was my ball! Used a 9 to get on the green

How is this possible? Was someone messing with us and threw my ball further? Did his ball hit mine and send it up some more? Did I hit a rock or something in the fairway to send it further? Has this happened to anybody else?I am sure I am going get to get flamed for this, but it really did happen and I am just curious if this has happened to anybody else...

Actually, it did just happen to me the other day. I came up to the 8th hole the other day and sat and waited on a group ahead of us to get out of range. I'm not an extremely long hitter. I usually average 255-265 yards on my drives. The hole plays about 350, so I waited until all the people in the group were well past the 100 yard out marker and teed up. I made really good contact and hit a very nice draw that sailed right over the head of one of the guys and ended up under their cart just to the right of the green. That means that the drive traveled near 350 yards. I really don't see how it happened. I guess I got a lot of roll out because it was fairly hard and dry out there. But, I went and apologized to the group and explained that I didn't mean to hit into them and that I'd somehow hit that one nearly 100 yards farther than usual.

I didn't hit one as far as you OP but in my case it was a well hit ball that tracked the left side of the FW. It came down on line with the cart path and went back in the air for another 60 yards or so, total yardage was over 300. Me and the family I was playing with watched the whole event. It was a blooper. They happen.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

It was very dry out and the fairways were really hard, so I guess with a good bounce and roll it could have happened but I am still having a very hard time believing it went that far without any help...

This has happened to me once but i was in the middle of the fairway and no cart path marks. My first thoughts were sprinkler head but i think i would see that on the ball so idk. Could just be an excessive amount of roll. If you fly a down slope you will get tons of roll. IDK. Good shot none the less.

Anything is possible but the ball on ball contact theory is probably the most plausible (not a knock against you, but 380 is a bit extreme for even the biggest hitter).

Also - did you make sure it was your ball? I've seen where people from adjoining fairways sometimes play the wrong ball coming back in the other direction, especially if they're in a rush to get off the 'wrong hole'.

I was thinking the same thing (ball on ball), its just really hard for me to believe it could even roll that far... But it was my ball, I put a B on most of my balls, and it was the one I was playing with all day...

lol that's what we did, after he hit his shot to the green we turned around looking for my ball... Morons were leaving marshmallows all over the course to mess with people so we thought my ball that was up there was a marshmallow lol.

I've hit shots much longer than average due to unrepeatable swing speed, contact, atmospheric conditions and terrain - get all the factors right and - wow.

Regarding ball on ball - I doubt that would add much distance. Maybe you played the wrong ball?

No, it was the right ball... It is a Fuzz with my B I wrote on it. It was also pretty windy out but I didn't have the wind directly to my back. Who knows, it definitely had me scratching my head.

LMAO at the marshmallows.

I think everyone has had one of those WTF long drives before. I had a 305ish yard drive on a par 5 a couple years ago that I *think* hit a sprinkler head and just shot out down the fairway.

Yeah it was funny at first then it just gets old lol, driving all over the fairway from marshmallow to marshmallow. This is the second time I have seen this, but it is pretty clever...

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I highly doubt ball-on-ball is plausible. Even if one ball was to land, on the fly, and hit another ball already on the ground squarely enough to send it - what - 50-80 yards, one or both of those balls is going to get sent in some wildly askew direction, I'm pretty sure. That it could happen and both balls would be right in the general line of where you initially saw them, has got to be a one in a billion shot.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

I have done the following on more than one occasion. When someone drives over a hill to a blind fairway without looking (or listening for the bell or whatever) to ensure it's clear, they can drive into another group. Not so much malice as ingnorance. Anyway, instead of hitting the ball back, I pitched it another 100 yards down the fairway. They're probably still wondering how they did it - buying all sorts of new equipment and lessons trying to duplicate that one miracle shot. Good times.
