I will be picking out a new 3 wood soon! It is a wedding present from my soon to be wife. I know the best way to decide between steel and graphite is to demo the clubs, But my question is more or less what do you think would be a better shaft for my 3 wood steel or graphite? I have a #2 Heavenwood with a steel shaft and I absolutely love the feel! I feel like I have a ton of control with it plus I can hit it rather well. Then there is the part of me that thinks I should have a graphite shaft, the same one as my driver so that they match. I know I know DEMO DEMO DEMO, but aside from that does anyone have any other opinions or suggestions? Does anyone here have a steel shafted 3 wood or played one before?

I lean towards graphite shafts in fairway woods. There are so many choices when it comes to weight, flex, kick point, etc that I personally feel it makes a smart choice.

This season I replaced my old 3 wood (twice) and it was steel shafted. I can honestly say now that I've gone graphite, I'd never go back. The shaft weight and flex is so much finer today than it was a mere few years ago. But at the same time, steel shafts are much better today as well. Personally, I don't htink I would go back.

I see you're a callaway fan. I wasn't looking for a callaway when I was shopping for my 3 wood. I demo'd a lot of stuff, everyone's different but I was really happy with the feedback and forgiveness of the Callaway X 3wood. I can really let it rip with this club, more so than any other club in my bag. Give it a shot when you're demoing clubs.

I still play with a steel-shafted TM 200 three-wood (although it will be retired for next year ). I liked it because of the added weight of the steel but you can get graphite in heavier weights now. This was the first summer I played with a graphite shafted driver (except for a brief fling with an old bubble burner from 1997) and will switch to graphite in my fairway woods and hybrids next year. Like Everardo stated, there are so many graphite shaft choices out there that you can get one that really matches well to your swing. Demo a ton and make sure you get one that is fitted for you and your swing. Have fun trying out clubs!
