In honor of the redundant thread of Longest Drives, how far can you hit it, 300 this, 300 that...

Come on, spill your guts, what is the most embarrassing shortest drive you ever had ;)

Luckily i never hit anything that sent the ball behind me on the tee, but i have done something just impressive. Par 3, 3rd hole, Blackmour Golf course, Richmond Ohio. I top the ball so bad, that it bounces sideways and hits me, if i had to say, it went a grand total of 1 yard... BRING IT!!

When I was just starting, I was on a par 4 and tee'd it up really low to use my three wood. I topped it and it went a whole -4 yards. Off the backside of the tee box. Haha

One instance comes to mind.

2 ft.

Topped the ball with driver and drove the ball straight into the soft tee box. Plugged up 2 ft infront of the tee.

I was farting around on the first tee Sunday morning and accidentally hit my ball. It was pretty brutal, and I'm glad I didn't kill anybody or break property. I'd say the net distance, forward, was about negative 3 yards. I can't really explain, in words, the direction it went - it was probably the most awkward athletic moment I've ever been associated with, though. Safe to say, we didn't count it

Forward distance 1 yard. I hit a duck hook off a handrail on the side of the tee box, ricocheted off the rail, straight across the teebox, into the parking lot, off a f-250's tire, into the air and into the bed of the truck. No lie. The craziest shot I have ever seen in my life.

I was a 1st year newbie at the time but, I was playing the Sub Base golf course in Groton Ct. on a rainy October afternoon. I was on a short par 4 and really swung hard at the ball . My ball carried about 2 yards to the right and hit a concrete tee marker. It richocheted right back into my " you know where". After sitting on the bench for about 20 minutes...... I was good to go. :)

Unfortunately, all of my worst ones are in tournaments. The first one was at one of my first tournaments, at Shaker Hills Golf Club in Harvard, Ma. It was on the first hole and I hit it off the side of the hosel such that in going straight left the ball barely missed my front leg. It only went about 25 yards in total to the rough in the 9th fairway. Amazingly, I made a par.

Another bad one was in another tournament at Framingham Country Club in Framingham, MA. I had been hitting it decently so far, but on the par 5 4th hole I shanked one dead left and it didn't get more than 5 inches off the ground. For some reason I just caught the shanks with my driver and could not, for the life of me, stop shanking my driver. I ended up shooting an 85, which wasn't that bad with the several shanks that ended up getting lost and playing the back nine with just my hybrid and below.

I've never hit one for negative yardage, but I have "hit" a few for exactly 0-yards. Complete whiff. You know that swing out of your shoes swing that gets nothing but air. I've also swung so hard that the air knocks the ball from the tee... Total distance 1-2 inches!

that I can actually remember... probably just the other day. Something really funky happened on my downswing with my 3 wood, hit the ground like half a foot behind the ball. Ball shot straight to the right and sky high... into the middle of this tree, I didn't see it drop out of the tree, I heard a thud in the rough literally right behind me beside the tee box. So the ball hit the tree, hard enough to send it WAY into the air, over my head from the tree just beyond the tee box on the right to directly behind me in the rough next to the tee box. My friend said "I didn't see it come out of the tree... you?". I calmly walked to where I heard the thud, picked up my ball, and my friend goes "You can't be serious?!"

On a par 3 with a 6 iron, couldn't find a broken tee to use to I teed it off the grass. I topped it, which sent the ball almost straight up. Somehow I managed to actually hit the ball again on my follow through - sending it about 10 yards right and behind me. Ta-Freaking-Da.

I've been swinging a golf club since I was 2 so I'd bet on an all out whiff!

I did spank a 3-wood about 80 yards on a par-5 earlier this year. Didn't even make the fairway. Ended up saving my par though.

Not a drive, as it was only at the range, but I had one of those embarrassing shots that head right toward the side barrier, bounce loudly, bounce into the bucket of balls, knock them over, and cause me to sheepishly put my club away and walk off for about 10 minutes. *sob* lol

Playing with a friend of mine earlier this year, he topped his drive and pulled the ball into the tee marker for the ladies/juniors tee ahead. It was one of those spherical markers, and the ball must have hit it square on - the ball flew directly up and back over our heads, must have been at least 100 feet in the air, bounced off of the road, back almost as far again into the air and finally came to rest on the driving range a good 100+ yards behind us. I have NEVER laughed so hard on the course in my life!

Probably today actually. After not using my driver the whole round I decide to take it out for fun on a long Par 5, I hit it real low and to the left, it hits a tree and bounces way back and to the right side of the fairway. Probably went a total of about 10 yards after it bounced back.

My first time at the driving range I shanked one so bad it hit the wooden divider in front of me bounced back and almost hit me.

Fun thread! coz at least I know I'm not alone in this :D
First time I ever pulled the driver on the course, at the time I topped a lot so, smart ass that I am, I teed it up high, very high. I of course hit under the ball with the crown, the ball goes straight up right, bounces on the nearest tree, lands on the champions tee box, 30 yards behind from where I was standing. My partner and mentor tried not to laugh, and he said "I told you, you're not hitting from there today! don't try to cheat again! tee it up again "
Good times!

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
