Any suggestion for 3 courses in Los Angeles

Hi all!

I am going to Los Angeles, CA in next month and want to play in 3 different golf courses there. Would you pls suggest me which are the best golf courses in LA (within a distance of 50miles)?

My recommendation is the 2 courses in Industry Hills (Ike & Babe). Its a first class resort, and both courses are challenging and fun. Ike is a players course, whereas Babe is links-style. Call and say you're interested in becoming a club member and they'll give you the member rate.

If you don't mind spending some major dough, Trump National in Rancho Palos Verdes was very nice when i played it several years ago; some of the holes are a little gimmicky or cheesy, i.e. the man-made cliff and waterfall behind 1st green, and many holes are extremely difficult where there's not a whole lot of room to miss a fairway due to the place being right on a cliff. the ocean views are absolutely stunning though.

Driver: Cleveland Classic 270, 10.5*
Fairway Woods: Adams Speedline LP (3 & 5)
Hybrids: Wilson Staff Fybrids 21*, 24*, UST V2 stiff
Irons: Callaway X-20 Tour, 5-PW, Rifle Project-X (flighted) 6.0
Wedges: Cleveland CG15 DSG 52* & 58* +/- 56* Niblick

Hi all!

Within 50 miles is sort of tough to narrow down as LA is so large - those who live there (I did for 25 years) tend to think of distance in minutes, not miles. Where are you going to be based while in LA?

As others mentioned, the Industry Hills and Trump courses are some of the best. Rustic Canyon in Moorpark is also great and a terrific value. Pelican Hill in Newport Beach also has two great courses.

I'll second the Pelican Hill recommendation. I was there about a year ago. Stunningly beautiful property with a stretch of holes on the ocean and some challenging golf.

I had to look at a map to see how far it is distance-wise and it's a bit out of your stated range, but if you find yourself a few hours north up in Santa Barbara, Sandpiper is a treat, as is Rancho San Marcos.

Info on PV Golf Club is at pvgc.com. It is a nice course, designed by George Thomas and William Bell who did a number of acclaimed courses in California, including Riviera, Bel Air CC, and the LA Country Club. It is a lovely course, often overlooked even by those that live in the area thinking that it is fully private. I don't think it is quite as nice as Pelican Hills (which is about the same price - expensive!) and isn't as well conditioned, but it is still a really nice course and worth checking out.

1. Rustic Canyon is by far the best bang for the buck. If you like links style golf, this is the closest you will find in the LA area.

2. Angeles National is a super course, beautiful, fun and challenging.

3. Lost Canyon has two courses that are pretty tough but nice

4. Industry Hills also has two good courses

5. Robinson Ranch also two good courses

6. Trump National - overpriced and the waterfalls don't do it for me, but great views and some good holes.

Try joining greenskeeper.org. From there you can read a ton of reviews plus it gives you updates on course conditions.

As far as courses go, I would play Industry Hills (as many have already suggested), Robinson Ranch and probably Angeles National.

      Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron.       Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
