It'd be hard to go wrong with any of them, but I'd go Del Mar, Fastback, Squareback. I like the way the Del Mar looks the most and the Squareback the least. Performance wise they all seem to be the same to me (on a golf store putting green).

Someone's gonna say it. May as well be me.

Buy the one YOU want. Why do you care what other people would buy for themselves? You didn't even ask what other people would recommend for YOU (with a description of your stroke and your typical miss(es), etc.).

Bingo....

Becasue honestly, I like the Del Mar, and it may not fit you.

Thank you for your replies. I'm asking for my friend cuz he just started playing this game. Would it be easier for him to get a putter somewhere between blade/mallet just to get a feel of the game? It would be easier to allow him to decide a blade or a mallet putter later on the game right?

For me personally, I use SC SS 2.5 with an arc stroke.

Mallet is going to be for a straight back and straight through stroke. He really needs to go to a store and roll a bunch of putts. Its all up to him....make sure he knows a Scotty is not a cheap putter so he needs to be sure on his choice.

If a friend of mine just took up the game I would recommend he bought something a little cheaper, a second hand ping for example. If money isn't a concern for him then out of the putters you mention I really like the look of the fastback but I just can't get a smooth stroke with it. The squareback is cool (and an original design, pretty rare these days). The del mar also looks good but that style of putter doesn't suit my stroke (I used to have an odyssey 9, identical design).

That's only true because mallets tend to be face balanced. I have mallets with toe hang and they're great for an arc stroke.

And, frankly, I think virtually everyone should use an arc stroke.

There is a Del Mar buttonback out soon... I don't understand the fascination among Cameron enthusiasts with buttonback putters (their feel couldn't possibly be better than my Studio Design), but aesthetically? Top notch IMO.

I have the Squareback 1 with two 20 weights. It was a special order "Extra Heavy" that the guy ended up not wanting and I scored a deal on it. I have used it for a year and the better my putting stroke is the more I enjoy it.
