Anyone have one of these, or played with one much?

I hit one on a launch monitor tonight, 10.5* with the stock Stiff shaft. I was hitting it next to several other stock drivers also 10 or 10.5* with Stiff shafts.

The Adams was an incredible difference on the monitor. With the others I averaged about 105-108 mph clubhead speed and an avg distance of 265-275. With the Adams, my clubhead speed was 116-119 and distance consistently 287-297.

I've been playing a Cleveland Launcher (one of the originals, about 8 years old or older). The club fits me very well... my average drive is ~285 and I haven't really been looking for a new driver. The Adams has me very curious though.

Is there anything special about the (horribly ugly) RIP shaft they're using in this club?

Something seems way off there, there's no way a club is going to change you SS 10+ MPH. The 9064 is a Speedline head but it's not going to give you 10MPH, maybe 1 or 2 MPH. I've heard the ball speed is a bit faster off the face but again nothing close to the gains you're seeing.

It's possible that you could see significant distance gains by just properly being fit but it really shouldn't change your swing speed.

I think you may be a victim of someone playing with the launch monitor or you were really tight on the first few swings with the other drivers and got nice and warmed up by the time you hit the Adams.

All that being said, the Adams 9064 is a good looking club. I had one and sold it after a few days but I seem to be about the only person that doesn't like it. As the RIP shaft, there are two versions: the alpha (red eyes) and the gamme (yellow eyes). The alpha is a lower lauching lower spinning shaft and the gamma is a bit of a higher launching but still pretty low spin. The RIP shafts are getting used all over tour and getting really great reviews. I actually think they are pretty awesome looking but too each his own.

I agree it doesn't make sense.. but that's simply what was happening. I didn't just hit 4 or 5 balls and say "wow". I was there a good 45 minutes hitting 5 different clubs. I hit the Adams at the beginning, middle, and end of my session and the statistics were the same. Nobody was messing with the launch monitor while I was using it. I had the place to myself.

I don't think the "aerodynamics" of the clubhead were causing it - I'm more curious about how the shaft was loading and firing through.

I've been fitted for the driver I'm currently using. My distance is satisfactory and I hit it pretty straight... like I said, I haven't been looking for another driver. I plan to go back later this week and hit my current driver side by side on the monitor with the Adams.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
