Golf Mat

Hey all, just asking if any of you have any experience with golf mats (as I don't)
I recently purchased a nice big net, now I need something to hit off as its getting a litte (LOT) more chilly here in Michigan. Any suggestions on a high quality, durable, realisticish mat that isn't too pricey.
Appreciate any help.

I too would like to hear some feedback on this as I'm from Kentucky and the weather is getting a little cooler and days are becoming quickly shorter. You need to check out ebay as they have some nice mats f/s at reasonable prices.

Ive got this thing and it awesome! Thick, heavy duty, quality construction. Ive also got the black rubber mat that you stand on so that your feet are level with the the ball. You WILL NOT be disappointed with this mat.

If you are looking for real cheap I use a fiber welcome mat. Works real well. I've got a net in my garage for Wisconsin winter golf practice

Do you use two or just one to hit off of? I saw it is wide enough for Big Mike, but it still looks a bit narrow for driver.

I picked one of these up at Dick's Sporting Goods with reward card money. I don't see it listed on their site but I thought it might of had Izzo or Callaway on the box (orange/black). It came with 3 rubber tees and the small one will take a regular tee. It has fairway and rough grass. The mat is pretty heavy so it will stay put. I only the used the rough section indoors but it wasn't full swings. It looks like it might hold up pretty well. I got it for 24.99.

Try consulting nearest shop delivering golf course equipment and materials, such as e.g. range hitting mats. They just might have some left over corners of actual range mats sold for a few bucks a piece. Many years ago I bought two triangulars of size appr. 60x30x30 cm and payed 3 euros (appr. $4.5) each. Have used those for chipping and full swing with golf balls as well as with Birdie Balls.

And if U want a bigger mat U may just build one by nailing those peaces on a thick board to form a larger area.

Cheap solution but works well.

I bought mine from allturfmats.com. It takes a wooden tee and you can swing down and through it with no bounce.
I believe they have an ebay store as well. Go get one of these - You will not be dissapointed.

I went to my local range last year (which happens to be at a large golf store) and checked with the managers (friends of mine), knowing that they replace their mats every other year (but not all at once) and I asked what they did with the old ones...they said they sell the old ones for $50. They only had one available, but it had a small cut in it on one side. I asked how much for this one with the small cut in it, and they gave it to me for $25. It's a regular, heavy, full-size range mat, and the cut in it has never been a problem. I don't actually use it in the winter, but all spring/summer/fall it lives in my backyard in front of my net. While I certainly prefer hitting off grass, this lets me and my son practice whenever we want at home without tearing up the grass and having to move the net all over.

180 dollars for a MAT!

a few of my friends got mats for free.
The driving was bringing in new ones and didn't want to drag away the old ones so just gave them away. Nothing wrong with them either.

I got this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Premium-Golf-Mat...#ht_3076wt_729 for the starting bid price ($25) and it has been great. If I hit a fat shot I can definitely see it in lost distance. I dug out a small spot for it in my field and it does not move around much at all. Through approx. 1-2k balls it shows no wear at all and accepts a wooden tee. Really nice for $25 I think.

I would suggest you get the birdie ball version like one of the early posters talked about.
I bought a different version a year or two ago, a 18x36 inch square.
I've hit tens of thousands of iron shots on this surface, and it basically shows no wear. I use a tee on a different surface so i can't say how it would work for driving. If you're cheap, I would probably just buy the one mat for $90 and if needed you can make like a plywood/rug mat to stand on so you're at the same level
