Let's hear it... Some disclosure and sharing is good for the golfing soul. Maybe you have a 50 year old putter, or a $500 one. A ladies club? Don't carry a sand wedge? Use junior grips because of small hands? Quit on the back nine when a round is going badly?

What one part of your game is the most unusual.... Let it out! We're all in this together!

Here's mine. I use a 10 finger grip. All fingers on the club like a baseball bat. Always have, since the day I started as a young boy. I hate the overlap, it feels like I have no power. The interlock? Forget it. My father had a 10 finger grip and he taught me the same.

I'm still a single digit handicapper and played Div I as a walk on (which means I didn't really play ;) ). I have not met another 10 finger player in more than a decade.....

Yours???

Alright here it is........

I usually play Srixon Trispeed balls but I always carry Callaway HX Hot balls in the bag also. On the first tee box if the Srixon doesn't land in the fairway I'll switch to the Callaway balls for the rest of the day. Doesn't make any sense but just a ritual of mine.

The strangest part of my game is my tee shots. I can't hit woods for crap (seriously it's appalling), but give me a 3 iron and things go well. Then, I try to hit the driver again (or 4 wood) because my clients say that hitting irons off the tee is boring (was seriously told that a few times) and my swing goes away for 2 or 3 holes until I calm down and forget about that straight pulled drive bouncing back of a tree and giving me a second shot behind the tee box...

I also use a ten finger grip. I do also use a 50 year old ping anser putter. Strangest part of my game though would be that I refuse to play out of turn...I always hit badly if I play out of turn, so long ago I decided that I would never intentionally play out of turn again. It doesn't bother me if someone takes my turn, but it does bother me if I'm the one that played out of turn first. Weird, I know. I swear it just gets in my head and I always hit a bad shot.

I wasn't sure, so I asked my wife, who has played with me a few times. She said it was "the way you wiggle for so long before you hit". I do have a tendency to stand over the ball for a long time before hitting, but I didn't realize that I wiggled about so much.

It's a ten finger fiesta!!!!! I'm surprised. I am teaching my kids 14-12-6 the interlock.

Is that I'm totally inconsistent 95% of the time, but when I'm in the zone I feel like I can put the ball in the cup from anywhere and I do come pretty close. This year I had a three week stretch where I was playing my best golf ever. Here's the noteworthy shots of that period.

hole in one - 105 yard par 3
hole in one - 200 yard par 3

4 consective birdies on a very short 9 hole par 3 practice course (holes range from 70 yards to 120 yards). What's notable is that on all four of these holes I put the ball within one foot! Finished 4 under.

Eagle from 100 yards out. My approach was from the right front of the green, the pin was tight at the right front and there was a big steep bunker protecting the pin. There was about 1 square yard of surface on the fringe where I could land the ball and have a chance for it to go in. Hit short, you're in the bunker, land on the green and it's rolling off the other side. Still can't believe I got it.

Less than an inch from a hole in one on a 122 yard par 3. The very next hole; 165 yard par 3 I rolled my ball over the cup by 3 feet.

Also, in that period there were two other shots on par 3's where I put the ball within 5 inches.

haha sorry about the novel.

How fast I play...on an open course, I'll go through 9 in an hour and 15 minutes walking, <1 hour with a cart.

I'm the same way. Yesterday I played a short executive course in an hour and twenty minutes. I even spent some time in the woods hunting for balls. lol

The thing that seems to be very different between me and the people I usually get paired with, is the unusual combination of how poorly I play and how strictly I follow the rules and keep honest score. I can't believe how many people I play with where I shoot 100, they shoot worse than me, and yet they give themselves credit for something in the 80's. I think that's why it's so rare to find someone with a decent swing and handicap in the upper 20's: people who write down scores that would put them in the upper 20's, are actually shooting scores that would put them in the upper 30's.

That I pay so much time and attention before attempting to crush the ball off the tee, but nowhere near enough to putting from 6 foot...

I usually don't eat before or during a round. It has nothing to do with nerves but when I go into golf mode my appetite is just gone. Can't explain it.

Completely do this all the time.

I guess whats weird for me would be that if one day im good at putting ill be horribad at driving. If im driving the ball well ill be horribad at chipping, if Im chipping well then im horribad at putting.

Same with me. I think it is because my mind is not clear. That is to say, instead of concentrating on the swing, there is a tiny voice in the back of my head that says, ___ should be hitting first.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
