Do you get loft and lie angles checked during a fitting for a hybrid?

If you hit it like an iron do you get fit for it like an iron or do you get fit for it like a wood.

I bought a TM hybrid this summer. Right off the rack. Got it to the range and it was all over the place. My friend hit it great and bought it from me.

I then went and got on a swing analyzer and hit many different clubs. I ended up liking the launch angle, swing speed and look of the Adams Pro Black with voodoo shaft.

If you are looking for something specific, then get fitted, if you just want a club, don't worry about it.

But does shaft length matter on a hybrid like it does on an iron?

It depends on what you are trying to do with it. The shaft on my Adams is almost as long as a fairway wood, and I play it like one (it replaced my 5 wood) , but when I get around to replacing my 4 iron with another hybrid, it will have a much shorter shaft and a smaller head for more control.

What kind of clubs are you looking at? What are you trying to replace?

Do you get loft and lie angles checked during a fitting for a hybrid?

I have just ordered G15 hybrids and, after some research online, decided to go non-standard. What I believe is that OEMs make most clubs too long in most cases. With hybrids they are made to be a length where they can be used as a replacement fairway wood and generally have graphite shafts. If however you want to play them like an iron, and put a steel shaft in them, they knock 1/2" off the shaft length, they say that this helps to preserve the SS.

I read somewhere that if you wish to play a hybrid as an iron it should be no more than 1/2" longer than the iron it is replacing. After looking at the specs for both I decided to knock another 1/2" off the hybrid as it was still, in my opinion, too long. My reasoning is that I would like the transition between playing a 4 hybrid and then a 5 iron to be a smooth one, and not call for any changes in my swing. This extra shortening of the shaft led me to look in more detail at the lie angles, the end result of that was that I have asked for the angles to be changed accordingly. From memory, I think -1/2" = +0.75* upright (is this what they call hard-stepping?). G15 23* Hybrid (=4 iron) 39.5", 62.25* lie, with graphite shaft. G15 4 iron 38.25" Standard G15 Hybrid with a 38.5" graphite shaft has a lie angle of 63.75* which is how I have ordered my 23* hybrid with steel shaft. I'll find out soon enough if this all makes sense.

Cancel that It seemed like a good idea at the time but, have just found out that PING can't alter the lie angle of their hybrids.

Hard stepping is where you replace the shaft with the next on in the set, wouldn't work for graphite though. example. Hard stepping requires a full set of shafts as the PW shaft is fitted to the 9 iron then cut to 9 iron length, 9 into the 8, 8 into the 7 and on. Soft stepping can be done without buying a full new set of shafts, it just requires a new shaft for your longest club ie if you carry a 4 iron you buy a 3 iron shaft and fit it to the 4 iron 4 into 5 etc. Not tried it though.

To my knowledge, only the mizuno line of hybrids can be bent.
