VR full cavity vs. G10 irons?

What are your thoughts on these 2 irons?

i'm a higher handicap i guess, avg scores of high 90's to 105's. i previously played TM burner xd's and liked them, but just wanted to try out something else.

i've hit both, but i dont really know what i should be looking for. i noticed that with the g10 the ball goes up pretty high...is this a good or bad thing?

just want some feedback.

Really depends on what "pretty high" is... The best advice is to get them fitted for you... even as a high hcp it will help your game. From a purely esthetic point of view I like the Nikes better but that really isn't a great reason to pick one over the other... Try to hit both if you can and choose the one you like best.

I have the G10's and really enjoy them, but cant say anything for the the Nike full cavity though...

If you have trouble getting the ball up, the G10 or the Big Bertha models might be just what you need. Despite my HDCP, I get the ball up pretty good, so the X20s with a midkick shaft work just fine. Remember, shaft is just as important as head design in selecting clubs.

As TH says, get fitted on a launch monitor and see just what you need. Before I switched irons in spring 2009, I hit assorted Ping, Titleist and Callaway models for three months, narrowing down to the X20s. Bib Bertha and G10 models just popped the ball up in the air too much.

You don't say how long you've been playing. If your swing is somewhat unstable, you might take some lessons and try to get some swing consistency before you switch clubs.

Well, that depends on what you want. I think the VRFC look better. All other things being equal, the g10s will get the ball in the air better. I find the feel of the VRFCs to be better, although both are cast irons.

Both have a nice variety of clubs -- you can get just about anything 3-L in either. I think there's a 2-iron in g10, but you don't select game-improvement irons based on who has a 2-iron.

What sorts of issues are you having with your irons?

For high handicappers I always will recommend Ping's and Adams irons without fail.

If you can't hit those irons, you probably should just stop playing all together. The ball just pops right off the face of them.

I can't say anything about the VR but I've played the G10's since June. I love the clubs. Mine are +1". 4 1/2 * upright. I also found that larger grips made a big difference. I no longer feel the need to over grip the club, I can hold it very loose without it turning or feeling as though its going along with the ball when it flies out of my hands : ) Its actually a tad difficult to move the ball left or right. The club is meant to hit straight and its hard to work. I can move it left to right easier then right to left. The G10 does indeed have a high ball flight and I like it alot. I play in the desert and the greens can get hard so its nice to be able to get the ball high to hold the greens. I'm betting I could find a different set that were longer distance but I have no need to hit the ball longer, consistancy allows me to score better.

The G10 is only the second set of clubs I've owned. The other was a cheap set of Slazenger, beginner club set.

My old set of irons were Ping Eye's and I hit those hit also... I was worried about the G10 really making me hit it high but it actually didnt change anything. Like I said I havent hit the Nike's but have nothing but good things to say about the G10's.

I've hit them both-I'd take the G10s all day every day. Just personal preference, I've got a set of Nike Forged Pro Combos and I love 'em, but I don't care much for the Full Cavity Nike set.

I have owned both of those, the G10s are very forgiving and provide great help on mishits. Having said that, the wide soles of the g10s drove me crazy, just not a good fit for me. I should have gone with the i10s at that time. The 2009 VR full cavity have a cleaner look, narrower sole and were a better fit for me bit I hated the stock shafts which ballooned most of the time for me, sold those to a friend and he loves them. Go try them both and make your decision based on what is the better choice for you, there are other alternatives also.

What was I saying lol, I have been attending to a 4 week old so that has been taking some attention away lol.

I demo'ed both. Both go straight and high but I thought the feel in the VR Full Cavity was much better.

I am also a high handicapper I just purchased the Nike VR clubs and am going back to my old clubs which are wilson Ci7. I like the look of the nikes;however, they just don't play as well to me. I have more control with my Wilsons. If you still want the Nikes I can hook you up. Mine are 2 months old and I have the receipt. They are regular flex.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I ended up getting the VR's and used them at the range a bunch of times and just didn't really like them all that much so i returned them.

I found a good deal on a set of titleist ap1 710's (reg nippon steel shaft)so i grabbed those and am so glad i did. i just love how they feel and i seem to be hitting them solid. i do need to get them fit properly still, as i'm choking down about an inch on each iron.

Great choice! I just bought a new set of Titleist AP 1 710 irons with the same shaft. I always thought Titleist irons
were for low handicap players, but the AP 1 is so forgiving it almost seems unfair.
