Well today i had golf tryouts for my school. I went into it knowing if i just played my game i would beat nearly everyone out there..... Well everything for some reason went to shit. I feel like I couldnt fine my swing from the start and like I was making/trying to figure out my swing with every shot. That really made me mad as two days before I spent about four hours practicing and had pin point accuracy and was putting the ball anywhere on command.... I came out today with a 51 ON NINE!!!! Now you can look at my hc and just imagine what kind of breakdown happened today. I still have tommorow so we'll see. End rant.

Good luck man, my daughter will be going through a similar process next year I guess, she want to get on the high school golf team as a freshman, she has been told told that she can do it IF she produce the scores required.
Back in the summer she was at a junior golf acadamy when the golf coach for the high school was there, he aproached her, complimented her on her swing and told her that as long as she kept her GPA above 3.0 she shouldn't have a problem....... so finger crossed....

Go for it you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

There's your problem right there. You went into the round thinking you were invincible. As soon as you hit a couple of bad shots you got mad at yourself and folded up like a cheap lawn chair. I know that because it's happened to me way too many times. I know it's easier said than done but you have to relax and play one shot at a time. Don't let the competition get to you and cause you to start obsessing over the score. If you do that a couple of bad shots will put you in panic mode and then you're toast. Just play with the game you bring. Everybody has days when they don't strike the ball well. There has to be something you're doing well. Figure out what it is and draw your self confidence from that. In my case, my short game is my saving grace. Even if I'm not striking the ball well I don't let it get to me because I know I can get up and down no matter what happens between the tee box and the 100 yd marker. Once I make it to the 100 I can take a deep breath and relax because, in my own mind at least, I've got the deadliest short game on the whole damn golf course. Find your source of self confidence and focus on that. You'll be surprised how quickly your game comes back to you when you quit worrying about winning and start thinking about being the best you can be at whatever it is you're doing well that day. As a 9 HC, believe me, there has to be something you're good at on any given day. Focus on that.

56 + 36 = 87.....thats not a bad score for tryouts. Get out there and just focus. You can still make the team. Im sure the other guys are shooting 40 to 44 on their 9's so just do your thing and you will be fine.

Think of it like this...its just another 9 holes. There is nothing different about it, except the word "tryout" is there. Its just a word. Go shoot your score and dont sweat it.

Weren't you just on the Big Break Brian?

I was thinking the same thing. No offense Kennay92.

Golf is a journey brother. The mind has much more to say about what you shoot than your hands and arms. Eliminate any expectations, go out and play golf. Hit each shot completely indifferent to where it goes or how it got there. Focus on the what you want the ball to do and not what your swing is doing. Also... did you turn in that 51? I know a lot of young guys that don't turn in their horrible rounds. They all count and they all determine what your handicap is.

i think he meant 51 + 36 = 87...as 51 is actually what the OP shot, not 56

Well second try out day was today. Instead of playing he watched us hit on the range, told us where to hit, and judged on if we could get it there and how accurate we were. I hit pretty good, still struggled a little bit, donno why, but a million times better than yesterday. Will I make it? Mmmmmm its tough to say right now cause of how bad I did yesterday.. Ill let yall know though.
