Need some advice here. I own a 07 Taylormade Burner driver and the head cracked on the top part of the face. I have only been playing since August and the club was bought around the same time. My issue is that since the 07 isn't made anymore and the golf shop told me Taylormade will most likely give me a new club my issue is what Taylormade driver should I be targeting for replacement or maybe upgrade? Any help is appreciated.

The club was bought brand new in August? How did the crack happen? Don't get ahead of yourself by assuming that the customer service will replace it. Especially on a club from 2007. If they do replace it, I'd guess it would be a Superfast.

Yes the club was purchased in August of this year. The crack happened after driving off the 5th tee box at the course I play at. I agree with what you said about not getting ahead of myself. The clerk at the golf shop did look at it and said most likely Taylormade will replace it with a different model. Apparently Callaway and Taylormade are the only brands who stand behind there clubs and offer replacement clubs.

I read a story in our local papers "Fix it" column, where a guys Taylormade driver snapped off at the end of his swing and conked him on the head. It was less than a year old, but the shop that sold it would not replace it or send it back to TM unless he left his VISA card number. So he complained to the newspaper, and they talked to TM, who shipped him a new driver. I believe it was still under warranty, but I wonder how one proves a break was from normal use rather than from a knee or a car door.

Only thing I didn't believe in the news story was that the complainer was 80 years old and still claimed he had a 200 yard carry.

Taylormade probably still has access to those older clubs somewhere too. If not, bet they have loads of 2008 or 2009 Burners shipped back from the stores that carry them on consignment.

Got my replacement club. Taylormade sent me back the 09 Taylormade Burner. Anyone ever hit this model? If so what is the difference if any between 07 and 09 versions of the Burner? The shape of the head looks different.

I've got the TP version and it's as good as any. You'll like it I'd imagine.

That's great.  It's good to see TaylorMade standing behind their products.  I have 2 friends who have the '09 Burner and they like it best out of the recent Burner models.

It has been a few days and the weather here in NY has been a bit to chilly for me to go test out my new 09 Burner. That being said is it wrong that I really don't want to use it and would much rather choose a different brand to go with? I really would like to know how another brand hits since I bought the 07 Burner in August and now in December I really don't want to stick with Taylormade.

If you want to know how another club hits, you can try them at retail stores. Also, pro shops at golf courses usually let you take demos onto the course/range. Answer to most of your questions = do what makes you happy as long as its within reason.

Ummm.  It's been too cold to consider going to a range in NY.  Although I'm dying to hit a ball.  Probably won't until March.

I'd keep the '09 in the wrapper if you plan to switch drivers and see if the shop would do an exchange.

'09 Burner (UST ProForce V2 77g - S)
4dx 15.5 hybrid (UST V2 - Stiff)
'99 Apex Plus 3-EW (Stiff)
TM rac 50/6 GW
Arnold Palmer The Standard SW (20-30 years old)'99 Dual Rossie Blade

Hopefully I get some responses before I head out today. I am getting a full credit for the 09 Burner and am going to trade it in today for a new driver. $149 plus tax towards a new driver thinking of going with the Cleveland Launcher DST or maybe a Callaway Diablo not really sure have to hit a few. Any suggestions? I am a new player and would like a club I can grow with. Thanks

I ended up going with the Cleveland Launcher DST 10,5* with a reg flex. Got my swing speed measured. I apparently have a swing speed of 82-89 on average. I did reach 100 and 101 on 2 swings that I really tried to add a bit more and that was about as comfortable I could swing with that speed. Felt a lot more comfortable at the 88 range.
