I have decided that the Kombi -s  is my next purchase.  I have been sampling it every time i visit Golf Galaxy and it has grown on me.  But I have a hang up with buying a finely crafted item from a big box retailer. Just seems to me that it should be purchased from a mom and pop boutique retailer.

the trouble is, I can't find one in my area. I am going to visit my folks in Palm Springs for New Years and plan to visit a few SC authorized shops down there.

anyhow, just curious where you bought your Scotty from and if I am the only one who has the same hang up with Big Box retailers.

When a company makes a club in the USA I will proudly display their brand here. All of mine were made in china by somebody making $2 a day. Shame on you Mr club manufacture.

I purcahsed a Kombi-S in the middle of last year from someone off the "Cameroncollector" forum.  I would get it where ever you can get the best price on Camerons.  What you are purchasing is what the call OTR or Off The Rack.  I wouldn't be too concerned about those ones, however if you are looking at 009's or something, then you might want to stick with an authorized seller or someone that is trusted on the collector forum...JAT.

but thanks for the heads up on that site....

one thing I have a question about is the face milling.

The one I have been eyeballing in the store has a beautiful symmetrical milling pattern on the face.

I was browsing around on cameron collector and I see a thread about this guys putter and everybody is raving about it. first thing I noticed is the very sloppy face mill pattern.  can somebody here explain to me why they would intentionally mill a sloppy and random face pattern ?

for reference here is what I would consider a nicely done milling pattern.

and  for the record, I am a hobbyist machinist and have my own bridgeport mill.

If you are gonna be in the Palm Springs area check out Pete Carlson and Lumpy's... if you are willing to check out larger stores there is also a Golfsmith and a couple of Roger Dunn's

No problem... personally I don't buy a lot of equipment from Lumpy's (I find Golfsmith and Roger Dunns to have better selection and prices) but any work that needs to be done on my clubs happens there.  Their guy is excellent and they are by far the cheapest on reshafts, grips, etc.

It definitely has that "go in the hole" look. Lol

Don't see deep milling listed on the option list on the custom shop Portion of the website. I wonder if that finish was only offered on select putters. Ummmm. I could always chuck it up in my own mill and do it myself.... That would send the purist into fits I am sure. Lol

Bought both of mine used at a local Nevada Bob's, and got great deals on both. The Red X was (and still is) immaculate, but I got it for like $125 or $150. The Studio Select was in great shape too, probably 8.5/10, and got it for the same price, if I remember correctly. Been getting the bug for another one lately, something custom maybe, just not sure what I'd get.

Yeah they are pretty enthusiastic about it.  I collect the head covers and such, but I am not as fanatical as most of the members on that site.  That putter is probably a 009 that is made for the tour players and would probably run you a few thousand to purchase.

This is what Scotty refers to deep milling.  It's obviously more obvious that the putter above.  It's suppose to provide a softer feeling.  So the milling above may look sloppy because of the picture that was taken, as I have never heard someone complain about Scotty's custom milling work.  If you are looking for a putter with deep milling, it's going to cost you some moola...

Got my California Coronado off of ebay actually brand new.  I honestly love the thing and it was the best purchase I made.  My previous putter didn't have enough feel for me and my Scotty felt great the first time I used it.

Golf galaxy.  It was the most I had ever spent on a single club in the bag.  It was also the only club I've ever purchased with zero buyer's remorse.

How much for me to send you one of my own to do this to it?

I hear what you are saying, but remember, if it weren't for that big box retailer you would not even know how much you like that fancy new putter.

I support the Mom and Pop's as much as anybody, but to go out of your way to not buy at one of the big guys after spending time in their shop swinging a new EXPENSIVE putter is a bit extreme in my opinion. Guys like you and me, and I bet a few members here draw their incomes (weekly checks) from these big guys!

I'm not trying to bash you, please don't take it that way. I am just giving my honest opinion. I myself just spent an hour and a half at an Edwin Watts hitting lots of irons to make my decision for what I wanted. I ended up ordering my new set from somewhere else that was a lot cheaper. I happily paid the EW for their 'fitting' time ~$30, and would have NO problem purchasing something from them that was not priced 20-25% over the competitors! To my knowledge the SC putters are about the same price no matter where you buy them.

    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).
    • Wordle 1,003 3/6 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩   felt a little like Wyndham when the first three green and I began the fist pump…
    • I'm relieved someone finally defined hiking. I was giddy when I saw these new TPI videos a day or so after they dropped. Very easy to understand the problem and solution the way they have presented it. Been working on fixing this for about a year and a half now. It's nice to be able to call it something so communication becomes easy.  I was working on more lateral and up too, but just having someone define it clearly in video form was so helpful for me to continue confidently with what I thought was wrong and how I had to fix it.  My conceptual error here was just trying to rotate like a tour pro but without including the necessary forward pressure/weight shift associated with enough lateral and upward motion of the pelvis.  This video is great too, as is Greg Rose.
    • Day 2.    couple mins of rolling putts end over end.    10 mins of Slow, mirror work, working on starting the downswing and impact wrist positions. Hit a couple balls into the net after.    Then finished with a couple chips to see if I could repeat what I worked on yesterday.
