Does anyone else have interest in watching this show.  There's something in me that wants to check it out, but then there is another side that says, how interesting is it going to be to watch a homeless person try to make a carreer out of playing professional golf.  I gather that's what the show is about from what I have seen in the commercials for it.  Does anyone else have any other information about it?  People WITH money have troubles getting on a tour, how is a homeless person supposed to do it?

Sounds silly, It's not really how you are describing it. ORLANDO, Florida, Dec. 7, 2010 — Two years ago the life of 53-year-old professional golfer Mark Burk changed forever. The golfer who won tournaments all around the world and coached A-list celebrities found himself homeless and living in abandoned construction pipes in Palm Springs after a romantic relationship went awry.

I've bolded the reasons I don't think I'll go out of my way to watch it. The guy's virtually over the hill on the Champions Tour !

Yeah, probably only old over the hill types like myself will watch it.

The fact that she is "furious" that he is having some success should be a clue to where she is coming from. A spurned women is not to be trifled with.

When a company makes a club in the USA I will proudly display their brand here. All of mine were made in china by somebody making $2 a day. Shame on you Mr club manufacture.

I think she's "furious" that he's being portrayed as a victim when in reality he may very well be a cruel, mean, abusive person.

Great find Iacas.  It's going to be interesting to see if this affects the show at all.  In all honesty I kind of want to see this show just to see how they do portray him.  Maybe her comments are a little premature as no one has actually seen an episode yet.

We have to be careful about making solid assumptions on this.  While I agree there is "more than meets the eye here" from him in this scenario, we can all relate to the ambleishment of some (I say some because not all are like this) woman who in their vindictive nature, drive men into the ground through the legal system.  And the retaliation (threats, aggressive tone, etc) while not right, spawns from the massive amounts of frustration that builds within the individual.

I am by no means saying that this is what happend, but, just merely stating that it is a possibility.

Regardless, I no longer have much interest in the show after learning this info.  I thought the show was going to be about a clean slate individual who dedicated his life which resulted in his homelessness.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I watched the first show, and there is a bit of interest in this show.  However I think the whole idea of him getting ready for the Champions Tour qualifier would not be happening if it wasn't for the golf channel, as I am sure they have something to do with people giving in to his request to do things for his clubs, bucket of balls, etc.  I will watch, probably not book my schedule around it.  Most likely tape it and watch it when I have time.

I watched 1/2 of it. Hard to know what really happened with his g/f. But the title of the show is a good one. He has no chance to make on the Champions tour.

Am I the only one that thinks the whole idea of him getting "kicked to the curb in 10 minutes" is a little far fetched and that something is missing? Like others in this thread, I feel that we're obviously not getting the whole story of what happened, and for all we know he could just be a terrible person. I guess I'll watch to see what happens but definitely am not buying in yet.

The whole time watching it I couldn't help thinking, so what , the film crew goes off to their hotel room at the end of the shooting day and leave the guy to sleep in a pipe ?

That was my first thought as well.  The whole thing about the police giving him ten minutes to pack, then dropping him off somewhere in the city is a bunch of BS.  When the cops show up on a domestic violence call, you either get arrested or you don't get arrested.  If they have no probable cause to arrest you, they can't force you into a squad car and drop you off in the middle of nowhere against your will - that's called kidnapping and false imprisonment.  If that had been the case, this show wouldn't be happening because he'd be a multi-millionaire living in a mansion from the proceeds of the resulting lawsuit against the city, instead of a homeless man living "in the pipes".

Good link...one of the comments on the other site is, "Who watches the Golf Channel anyway?"  Ha, just a legion of Sandtrappers that he obviously has no clue about!

My first thought was that the title is a good one because of the multiple meanings, the best one because he lives in a pipe. Then I started speculating that here is a guy that was preparing for the Champions Tour (ie not producing income or working), living with a super-model, and was in the "in" crowd.  Sounds like a kept man living the dream so far.  He then loses everything...including all those golf connections, celebrity connections, friends, etc to live on the streets.  You mean to tell me that this guy is so unfortunate that everyone turned their back on him...literally from riches to rags in 10 minutes?  There is something seriously missing in this story.  For one, anybody that is in the golf business that was in his position living in an area where golf pros are a dime a dozen who can't find another single golf person to room and get him a job at a club being a cart guy or something in Palm Springs, California, has some issues. He must have burned some serious bridges in his day. Oh, and then a producer show up and finds you.  What's up with that?  Sounds like made for tv drama.

Anyway, I hope the guy gets off the streets and can get back to a productive life, but I don't think he will get the set-up he had before.  I would love to hear the other side.

This was one of my questions as well. Granted, I only watched about the first 30 seconds of the show before turning my TV off, so this comment could be way off base, but I was wondering just how homeless the guy could be if he's the star of his own television show?

Thanks for the link Eric.  It's a bit like the "Prodigal Son" parable, which does not interest me.

Yeah, I wonder how much TGC paid him? If nothing else, somebody will see the show and feel sorry the guy and offer him a job of some sort. Maybe running a driving range or something. If he truly ends up on the streets after this show, it's his own fault.
